If you need a cheap place to live this will do

I leased my apartment 2-02 and didn't move in until 3-02 because I had another lease I was holding elsewhere, however to get a severly reduced move in rate I had to sign in Feb. Anyway for the four weeks I did not live in the apartment none of the work I requested was ever done, and when I came over the night before my move-in the doors were off my utility closet, laying in the middle of the living room, there was insulation all over the carpet in the hall, and a box of garbage and tools in my dining room. This on top of the lack of requested work done did not start me with a good impression of of Oakbrook.

Upon moving in I noticed the halls of the building stank, and at least one light on each floor was out. The front door never locks, even though the building is *supposed* to be a security building with keys to both doors and an intercom buzzer system. Upon having guests I found out that the bell to my apartment doesn't work, when they called me from the gas station. When I reported this problem to the office, they told me basically it was too bad and I would have to live with it because a contracting company had to fix it and that until there was enough people with the same problem they wouldn't warrent the company coming out.

The lawns are the complex are kept mowed weekly, usually about 8am Monday or Tuesday. The grounds are well planted with flowers and usually free of debree. The sprinklers are suicidal and spray on your car, in your apartment, and directly at the front door.

The minature golf course is a joke, and rarely are the props put back in place after mowing.

The complex claims two pools, only one was open over the summer and a man drowned in it.

The fitness room - I have never seen the inside of, nor care to from the horror stories I have heard.

One of the buildings was condemed with having black mold in the vents.

The leasing staff is a joke and my cat could do a better job. They are rude, don't return phone calls, don't keep proper records, will tell you anything to get you to sign. The office manager is equally as bad.

The maintance men seem to do ok if you are there to go "And what about this' And did you fix that' When will I get this back'" However one night I called for emergency maintance and never heard from them. Plus I always have to remind them to watch out for the cats so they don't get out.

Parking is hit and miss at best, there is no assigned parking and if you neighbors have company you probably will never find a spot.

I have never had security issues, nor heard of any in my building. I have seen police in the parking lots frequently and know in the spring there was a rash of car break-in's.

I picked Oakbrook because it took pets, and had a two bedroom with in my budget. If you are willing to deal with things for yourself, and can handle hit or miss maintance then you will be okay here. However I would *neve* reccommend it as a "Nice place to live".
