Used to be a nice place...Not anymore.

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007
When I first moved here in the summer of 2004 I thought I had really found a hidden gem in Battle Creek. Lakeside was cheap, the two bedrooms were huge, and it was really quiet. I had no problems for quite a while until last year around September my roof was leaking. The maintenance came and removed and replaced about a 2 foot by 3 foot section. However they have still never painted or given the ceiling the finishing touches! Therefore, I have been staring at an unfinished piece of drywall for months now. Also, the management changed in December of this year and now everything has changed for the worse. The former management was selective about who they let move in and they would evict people that had three noise complaints against them. Not anymore, the new management just wants to fill apartments. I have complained numerous times about the same people and they have only received one noise complaint letter. In fact, once I called and management was supposed to send out a letter and then I called back about three weeks later to complain again and management still hadn't sent out the first letter from three weeks ago!! What a professional operation! These people that I am complaining about are not the most savory tenants in the first place. I have walked past their apartment many times and smelled marijuana smoke, and they play loud rap music without any consideration for others. I first moved into Lakeside because I thought it was reasonably priced but still kind of a selective place. It wasn t the newest complex in town but I thought I could live there for a few years and because it was so cheap I could save money for a down payment on a house. There s no balconies, no washers and dryers in the apartments, and there is no central air. They have these window like air-conditioners that are installed into the wall of the living room. It is very loud and you have to crank up the TV when the air is running to hear. When you take the tour they will tell you that they will cool the whole apartment, but that is a lie. I have had to sleep on the couch many nights because my bedroom was far too hot even after running the air all day. I do live on the third floor so first or second floor apartments may be better. I will be moving at the end of my lease. I guess finding a decent apartment at an inexpensive price in Battle Creek is no longer a possibility. I will be paying more at the next place I live but hopefully the peace and quiet will be worth it.
