just a place to live.... but not well

The apartments are reasonably priced for the area, but you may want to check on the extra costs (very small garage costs extra, but good to have in this area) Not all apartments have been renovated, and some of the apartments have radiator/boiler heat & some have electric heat.... (again, check carefully & ask which you will have.) Buildings are approximately 40 years old.
The general area is good. The apartments are across from the linear park along the Battle Creek River (which sometimes has a "rivery" smell to it.) Generally, the area is so quiet you can hear the rail-yard over the river... or the fireworks from Bailey Park.
Each building has locked entryways with intercom & door buzzers, but they are often left unlocked or propped open. Also, smokers stand outside the building smoking... and also in the hallways. Watch out for ashes on the carpet & butts on the window sills.
I would recommend this apartment for people with VERY LOW expectations for quality & service. It is just a place to live. The buildings have obviously seen hard use with inadequate maintenance &/or upkeep. Management may blame it on residents, but they don't screen the renters very well. Also, if the owners don't fix or repair, why bother caring' Also, the hallways are cleaned every two to three weeks, but they aren't cleaned very well.
I'm embarrassed to have people see where I live. These apartments used to have a good reputation & have won awards in the past. It is a convenient location for me, but I'm very disappointed in this place. I'm not staying much longer.
This place could be so much better than it is.
