BIG, HUGE, SAFETY PROBLEMS!!

My husband and I moved in last year (March '08) and immediately had problems with our basement storage unit being broken into. Once, they just popped the gate right open and the door was ripped off even though it was padlocked, and the second time the extra chain we added was cut right off with bolt cutters. Luckily, nothing was taken either time. The neighbors upstairs claimed that their apartment was broken into, but they disappeared a few days after(eventually were evicted) leaving their bathroom toilet overflowing which caused our closet/bathroom ceiling to become totally saturated, leak, and eventually cave in. Maintenence's idea of fixing it was to stop the leak upstairs and repaint the ceiling with Killz, so Lord knows what kind of fungus is growing up there. We're pretty sure they tried to flush a bunch of drugs before they took off and clogged things up. Shortly after that, the catalytic converter was sawed out from under my car while parked in the carport (along with 20 other cars in the complex) and they "upped" security by having some guys drive around in golf carts every now and then. All of those things happened within the first 2-4 months of living here. Some of our friends live in a different building and witnessed a guy in the process of stealing a car from their lot in the middle of the day a few months ago. We made the HUGE mistake of renewing our lease a few weeks ago in spite of everything that's happened, because it's a good sized apartment for the money and we have a baby on the way now. Unfortunately, OUR Jeep was stolen out of our carport about a week ago and now we're stuck here for another year, or until we can come up with the money to buy out our lease. The apartments themselves are fairly spacious and relatively nice, but if you value the safety of your vehicles or possesions put in storage here it's definitely NOT worth it. Management does nothing when thefts occur, except tell you to call the police. We have now lost thousands of dollars due to the car thefts, and more importantly we've lost the ability to feel safe and comfortable where we live.
