I have lived at Southport for 1 year. I have a 2 bedroom (non-split) on the 3rd floor. The leasing process could have been a little smoother, but overall I have been happy with the apartment. I have had to make 2 maintenance requests, both of which were taken care of within 24 hrs.
Pros:
1) Quiet
2) Washer/Dryer in unit
3) High Ceilings (3rd Floor only)
4) Heat included in rent
5) Pretty low electricity cost (30-40/mo)
6) Fast/friendly maintenance people.
Cons:
1) Only choice for Cable TV is Southports own service (and it sucks).
2) Very high fees for pets (50/month for a pet plus 1/2 months rent for deposit).
3) Only option for internet service is SBC DSL (have to buy a landline with the DSL, so total cost will be $40-$60/mo).
4) Have to pay extra for a carport (17/mo)
5) They raise your rates quite a bit after the first year (70 I have been told from other residents).
