I feel that the pet fees, $50/mo are too high. Southport does not charge a child fee monthyly, and they make more a mess than my potty trained dog. I think it is cheap to charge renters to have new carpet. Renters pay extra monthly for carpet until it is five years old. The quality of carpeting selected is not the best. After five years it needs replacing anyways. My first apartment had older carpeting and I did not have to pay a monthly fee, but I did not feel comfortable walking bare foot on it or even taking my shoes off. There is not adequate parking spots. I find that I am parking at other buildings because there is not enough room. There also is no storage. My neighbors are loud, play their music all the time with no consideration of others, they spit and leave trash and cigarette butts all over the sidewalks and grass. They are constantly slamming doors and it constantly smells like cigarettes and marijuana. My husband also has a knife pulled on him in the parking lot. Many renters are young, inconsiderate and disrespectful. I do not feel safe and am leaving asap.
With all the bad, there is some good. I like having a washer and dryer unit in the apartment. I like that the heating is included. The view of the lake is nice as long as your neighbors aren't outside smoking pot and being loud. the location is nice. It is close to the freeway.
I feel that overall I pay too much to live in this quality of an establishment.

Funny, I live in building 9, have new carpet, never been charged a fee, have great neighbors, I am a single female and walk at 3am and never have had any trouble! By the way, I've shopped around and most apartments now charge $50 for a pet. I work with the Police Department and this is the safest complex by far here in Belleville/Ypsi area. See the Belleville Independant for crime logs and you will see that the other places have more trouble!

Dear disappointed renter... I hear ya. next month I am also setting the record straight for Southport. I think the person that actually wrote you is either ignorant, or works in the office. I cannot believe the stuff that Southport gets away with. It is absolutely ridiculous and we as well will leave the ghetto ass trash behind us to live here because we are moving. Good luck to everyone who lives here... if your household income is above $50,000 be prepared for the ------- in the office to tear you apart for every little detail.
