I would NEVER recommend this apartment complex to anyone!!!!! It is a Little Mexico!!! My daughter had been having an intruder come into her apartment numerous times,(not knowing it) until finally she went into her apartment only to find the intruder hiding in her bedroom closet! Unfortunately, he got way, fortunately she was okay, but quite tramatized by the whole event. The office staff was very standoffish and totally unconcerned. She moved out within the month. We were concerned for her safety. How did the intruder get into her apartment' The office staff suggested my daughter had NOT locked the door---Ha ha! We suspected the maintenance crew was making keys and therefore passing them out! We could go on and on.....It should be a gated community----the front doors to each apartment unit should be locked etc. There should never be a stairway leading to the back balconies.....my single daughter also had an attempted break in ---in her sliding door---they didn't succeed because the bar was there. Both times the police were called, locks were fixed or changed.....but it doesn't matter.....Move out while you have the chance. Yes, the price is inticing...don't let that fool you......there is NO PRICE ON YOUR SAFETY and your LIFE!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I wonder sometimes if someone has been in my apt. No matter where you live always always double check the locks and look around before getting out your car. As a single female you have to always keep a watch out. The one thing I can say is that the staff and manager has always called me before anyone going into my apt this is very important to me and I had requested this from them before moving in. It would be hard to have this area gated but I understand it would be nice. What I don't understand is what apt this is because there is no stairway leading to the back balconies the only stairways I've seen was to the "front" door. Are you talking about Westlake in Belleville? But still no one should be in your apt without your permission and in the closet he is lucky she did not have something waiting for him. Good luck

For thoes who still live @ westlake and who have complaints i think it's time that you band together and go to the city. sounds like that may be a recourse of action. 2ndly even though you rent your unit you are allowed to install a wireless home security system. many companys such as ADT and BRINKS offer such a system and NO you DO NOT HAVE TO nor are you obligated to give the security code to the office. remember under the law they have to inform you when they need to enter your unit and it has to be at a convient time for you. if they go in with out your premishion they are in fact breaking the law and can be charged with unlawful entry.
