So-so, could be better, could be worse

The bad: The central air units are quite small and don't work all that well. To be fair, part of the reason might be because I was in an upper unit, and of course they are naturally warmer than the first floor units. Maintenance, while mostly prompt, can be very slow at times - it took multiple months (yes you read that right, months) for them to repair/replace the screen door to my patio despite numerous calls. The leasing staff is very young and not all that friendly - they look at me as though I'm a hunchback when I enter the leasing office. However the leasing manager is generally nice and personable, and she's the one you want to work with when you come in.
All residents have gotten annoying letters taped to our front doors - from patronizing reminders telling everyone to pay rent on time, to letters telling us the parking lot "will be closed tomorrow for repaving and maintenance" and that all cars in the lot will be towed at owner's expense...what if I had been on vacation and left my car in MY parking space' The staff needs to learn to give residents advanced notice of repairs requiring lessee action, at least a week or more, not less than 24 hours. Other letters have mentioned how Pilgrim Village prides itself on keeping the community looking beautiful and well kept...but some balconies have been replaced with natural wood and left unpainted, and several doors have been replaced and left white instead of the being painted the standard deep-red. It's such an eyesore. Aren't those terrible yellow/orange lights on the exterior a blemish on the beauty of the community' And don't get me started about the quality of the shower rooms in the pool area...talk about disgusting. I'm afraid to walk barefoot in there.
You're very close to Canton-Plymouth Mettetal Airport (it's virtually across the street). You can also hear the trains passing over Haggerty and Joy, not far from your apartment. Lilley Rd is probably one of the roughest roads in Canton and needs to be repaved.
The good: I feel quite safe in the neighborhood. It's in a great location (although I hear bad things about other apartment communities not far away). The apartments themselves are quite spacious. I like having windows on two sides of the place. There's plenty of parking for me and for visitors. And as much as I've said negatively about the staff and maintenance crew, they are very polite when I do approach them in person about any issues.
The bottom line: Rental rates are now far too high for the quality. When I went to renew my lease, they wanted to charge nearly twenty-five percent more than I had been paying just a year earlier! Consider that before you consider signing a lease. The apartments are nice, and it's a very livable place despite all the bad listed above, but the quality to price ratio just isn't in the ballpark anymore.
