Not a nice place to live

I have lived in York Creek for two years now, and will be signing another lease...unfortunately. Due to the economy, and being a full-time student, I cannot currently move.
Going down the list, this is how I see York Creek.
Parking is adequate, nothing much to complain about there. When it snows though, they can't always keep up with as much as I'd like. That's Michigan for you though.
Noise is really all dependant on your fellow tenants and building. Right now, my building is mostly quiet, but a year ago, I got to listen to fights between couples, domestic violence, loud music until 3am...not pleasant at all. And basically everywhere in York Creek you have to put up with noise from people's car alarms and radios booming.
The grounds are alright. Nothing special, but it's satisfactory.
Safety...now this is the big area of concern here at York Creek. Our parking lots aren't all that well lit, particularly the areas between the garages. I don't feel comfortable walking in or out of the building late at night alone. Sometimes that is worse then others when there are a bunch of people loitering outside the doors. Break-ins of the garages are very common here, and I don't feel like YC has done enough to provide safetey for their tenants.
In my little stretch of garages, there have been 3 break-ins in the last month. Each time, York Creek didn't do much of anything. This last time, they broke into every garage (over 30) had the time to unscrew all the keypads, time to drink and spray paint gang signs, and still get away. Needless to say, this should have been took care of the first time it happened. It makes us residents feel unsafe and unprotected when our hard-earned belongings get stolen and the apartment does nothing to stop it.
There are drug deals that go on here a LOT. York Creek is well known for the seedy, shady things that go on here. I have walked out of my apartment and found little twisties of plastic, and almost weekly smell marijuana in my halls. I've seen people smoking it on their balcony even. Now to each their own, but I have small children over at my house and I don't want them to see that. York Creek also doesn't do an adequate job of background checking, because there are child molestors that live here. AND drug dealers. I'm talking about convicted people, not someone who I just think does those things. It isn't a safe place for children either, with no place for kids to play but out in the parking lot, and that is unacceptable because people drive like maniacs through it. There are also the many wooded areas I warn the neighborhood kids to stay out of because people throw trash and who knows what else in there. In the couple years I've been here, here are a few things I have seen/heard: A murder, countless break-ins of the garages with things stolen, a friend got her $450 bike stolen from the garage, domestic violence in the parking lot, drunk drivers coming home after a long night, arguments, loud parties until 3 a.m., a man jumped while walking home, over three incidences of people trying to lure children into cars, a drunk man passed out in the hallway with his pants down, and a person attempting to get into an apartment that wasn't his. Given that this is a large community of over 4000 people, maybe it isn't that bad. It's enough though to make me want to warn others that it isn't how the office makes it out to be.
Construction and Maintenance is okay. Cheap fixtures, some shoddy work, but overall maintenance does it's best to get to you quick and resolve your problem. Some of them make me nervous, I don't really like such a large number of people having a key to my apartment. The windows upstairs tend to get damp, resulting in mold and water stains.
The office staff is okay. I haven't really had a bad experience with them (other than the fact that they completely snow the true atmosphere and make it seem like it's a beautiful place to live). I have heard other people complain about how unhelpful they are when they have a problem.
Overall, I would not recommend anyone to York Creek unless you like the inner-city lifestyle. It most definitely is not tranquil like they claim.
