I love it here!

I have been living here for 9 months now and I love it. I live in the one-bedroom ranch style apartments. I found exactly what I was looking for- something nice, quiet, and safe. I was looking for a place where I wouldn't live near any loud children or partying teenagers. With the one-bedroom ranch style, there is no one living above or below you, so there aren't any annoying footstep sounds. Once in a while I'll hear the people next to me, but it's not even that loud. It's so quiet that sometimes I forget it's even an apartment. Rent is normally $449, but I have two cats so I have to pay an extra $50 a month.

The style and decor of the apartment are a bit old fashioned. I like some of the things about it such as the wallpaper. The walls are covered in a nice, neutral wallpaper instead of boring, white paint. There is also hardwood molding across the ceiling, floors, and windows. I also love the built-in shelving. There is a beautiful built-in hardwood shelving that connects the living room to the kitchen. I like the carpet, too. It's very easy to maintain and clean up stains. I'll comment more on the downside later.

The kitchen needs to be updated. The appliances are very old and are need of replacing. The cabinets desperately need to be updated and there needs to be more of them. There is not enough storage space in the kitchen. Also, there is not enough counter space. I went ahead and bought a baker's rack to give me some extra storage and counter space.

My favorite thing about the bathroom is that there is a linen closet right inside, so you don't need to keep walking in and out to get your towels and toiletries. The shower is on the small size. It's very hard to take a bath since the tub barely fits one person.

The bedroom is a good size, but the closet space is lacking. Maybe I just own too many clothes, but I had to put some of my clothes in the hallway closet.

Parking is very nice. I have never had a problem finding a good parking spot no matter what time of the day it is. I'm always able to park right up close to my place. The only problem I ever had was when it snowed a lot a few weeks ago- when they plowed the snow, they plowed it right into the cars! The snow was up to my trunk. I thought that was very rude and inconsiderate, but they only did it once.

I did have a few problems when I moved in. The first day, I noticed my porch light wasn't working. This should have been checked by maintenance before I moved in. It took a couple of calls for them to fix the problem. Since I live in the older style apartments, the porch light is controlled by a switch inside. The maintenance people couldn't figure out the problem, so they just gave me a solar powered porch light.

Now, my bathroom sink faucet is leaking pretty badly. I haven't called about it yet because I'm not home a lot during maintenance hours and I won't approve someone to come into my place when I'm not there.

Also, the hot water does not last very long at all! It is completely terrible. In the shower, the hot water last about only 10 minutes before it turns freezing cold. I have to plan using the dishwasher and doing laundry around my shower so I can be sure to have hot water. And when it is gone, it takes a few hours for the hot water to come back. I haven't called about this either. It's just something I have been putting off. I've learned to live with it so it's not even a big deal to me anymore, but someone who takes long showers would be very disappointed. I have to wonder if maybe the hot water heater is just old, since I live in the older section. But my lease is up in 3 months and I plan on upgrading to a 2 bedroom newer style so I'm not going to bother calling about this problem.

Another complaint I have is more of a personal style thing- the decor of the style is very outdated as are the appliances. The stove is 70's style and takes forever to heat things up. The refrigerator is old too, and the freezer space is annoyingly small. The dishwasher and washer and dryer are smaller than I would like, but I guess they figure a one-bedroom apartment doesn't need bigger appliances (they work very well, though).

I also don't like the fact that there is no separate dining space. My dining room table has to sit in the living room and takes up a lot of space. I guess I could get rid of it, but then I would have no place for guests to eat.

Since this is the older style apartments, the heater and the air systems aren't very impressive. It's electrically controlled in the living room with one vent there and another vent connected to the bedroom. This means it takes a while to heat and/or cool down the place. It is a little expensive to heat the place. In the summer my consumers bill was about $80-90 a month. This winter season it jumped to $145 in one month.

The quietness and size of the rooms outweighs any problems I have had here, so I recommened this apartment to anyone. I'll list my pros and cons.

Pros:
very quiet
nice size kitchen
washer and dryer in unit & in separate good-sized utility room
attic with plenty of storage space
nice size living room and bedroom
great parking
mailbox and dumpsters within walking distance

Cons:
kitchen & appliances need to be updated
hardly any hot water
small shower/tub
small dishwasher
small washer & dryer
minor annoyances such as leaky faucet
