To all the people who have written positive reviews about the dear old Belcrest, I have to say....Are you serious' I will admit that the building itself - though weathered -is beautiful. I love the size of my apartment, I love the lobby area, I even love the location. However, besides for the actual building itself this is NOT A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE. Rent is already on the high side - $790 for a two bedroom and due to go up soon. Plus, the heating units we have here are more than ridiculous. They are meant only to be SUPPLEMENTAL units and I know this for sure because I took the iniative to contact the company (http://www.heatcontroller.com - Comfort Aire) myself. They use industrial plugs which obviously means lots of electricity. Our bill was $100 last month and nearly DOUBLED this month. We can't help RUNNING our heat...it's FREEZING outside. But whenever possible we turn it off. We also keep the filter extremly clean (we clean them once a frickin WEEK!). It doesn't matter...the units don't go above about 65 and couple THAT with leaky window/walls and, well, it's pretty much cold all the time. And I could deal with a little cold, but not when I'm paying $200 just to keep me from not being able to feel my feet! We may be college students but that doesn't mean we should be robbed blind. And do not try to bring any of this - or other problems - to management (i hesitate to even USE that word when describing Mike...) Mike is the most unprofessional person I've ever met in my life. I'm only 21 years old and i'm 500% more responsible than him. He smokes cigars in our lobby, he doesn't take care of ANYTHING (my roommates and i have been waiting nearly 2 months to have our buzzer system up and working), he has me write issues i have on STICKY NOTES for goodness sake! It's crazy! Though the actual workers here have always been very nice, getting Mike to have them actually come up and FIX ANYTHING is a whole different story. When I moved in to be a replace roommate for a friend, it took me nearly 1 1/2 to get my swipe card. I contacted Mike nearly 25 times (and literally that's NOT an exaggeration) because he kept telling me things like "i'll be around just stop by" when i asked him over and over WHEN i could come down and get it. We're still waiting on our buzzer system. STILL. It's a hassle to go from the 8th floor to let people in. I wish more tentants would get together and actuallyl organize all these complaints - because there is power in numbers. Mike recently got scared b/c there was a LOT of buzz over these heating units and our electric bills being so high. He now is offering $200/unit...but only if we RESIGN our lease. WHY WOULD WE WANT TO DO THAT WHEN HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO SCREW OVER THE RESIDENTS' Plus, according to our lease, the management of The Belcrest is contractily liable, since it states that heating is included in the price of rent. Either rent needs to decrease, or these units need to become truly SUPPLEMENTAL. If that doesn't happen, I am moving ASAP. So my advice is don't move here. There's beautiful buildings around here that have much better management and are still nice. And believe us when we write about all the issues this building has. We have no incentive to lie. If you want to reply back to this post with a ' you have, I'll even write back. I'd like to save some people from making the huge mistake I did when I moved here!!!!!
