It was decent, but that is GOOD for Detroit

I liked the pool. I don't live in Detroit anymore thank god. I was raped down on Forest going for a walk during the day. This place was as safe as it can be for the murder capital of America. Sadly, I won't come back to this town except to visit family and friends in the suburbs, until they figure out how to clean up the trash. I love WSU and am alumni. That is what makes places like WSU, the Belcrest and other fun places around worth going. Too bad the neighborhood is ------ and your car or people who are visiting you, will have their car broken into at some point. IF you are going to HAVE to live in this city near WSU, this is your best bet for sure. Also I never saw a cockroach and I cannot say that for every place in D town.

This review is pretty damned worthless. Four years is a long time. The poster obviously has issues with Detroit.

Although the rape is deplorable, it has nothing to do with the Belcrest, nor does the posters feelings about Detroit and WSU. Re cars and visitors: that is crap. I have had regular visitors come to Detroit for over a year, parking on the street usually, and never was there a problem. But the final lines of the post are quite right: as long as you keep your apartment space clean, there are no issues with vermin, and the location and relative convenience cannot be beat.

you will see...the car will eventually get broken into when parked on the street. I never thought I would hear myself say this one...they need more cops in that area.

She is actually right about cars being broken into. Several cars in the parking lot have had their tires slashed and catilytic convertors sawed off. Cameras don't stop someone from doing this.

I also lived there, and had not only mine, and my wife's cars broken into, but on multiple occasions our friend's who were visiting as well. Some of us are only being honest. The building itself was not so bad, although parking was terrible, as folks would take up extra spots, maintenance did only a somewhat decent job, and the management was mediocre at best. But the area is very unsafe (I also know of a girl who was attacked just down the block, was there when some bastard snuck in, made it up several floors, and broke into a girl's apartment while she was showering - so much for security), and several friends who have been mugged there), and anyone who disagrees is being disingenuous. While that may not all be the fault of one particular apartment building, it is important to know there surroundings, and this is not a good area, plain and simple. The police are incompetent, and there are break-ins & car theft around there all the time. I spent many years living in and around that place, and just want folks to know what they are getting into. For those looking at all the facts, take these things into consideration. For those who blindly defend Detroit no matter what, you are not doing any service to anyone.
