I could never speak highly enough of Cathedral Tower. The best thing about living there is the staff and the residents. There is a lot of cultural diversity within the building and everyone seems to get along. Everyone is always smiling and saying hello.
Yes, the apartments are small, but are ideal if you are a busy student, like myself who's first home seems to be the library...which is within walking distance (both WSU and Detroit Public).
The central location in Detroit's Cultural Center is another added advantage to living here. The area may seem "9-to-5ish" but after being around for a bit, you start to get a feeling for all the activities that there is to do.
I love to be outdoors, so in the summer time it's great to walk, run, or bike around Midtown, New Center, Downtown (Campus Martius), and the riverfront. There is a growing nightlife in the immediate area as well, and it is fun and exciting to play a part in what some may call an awakening in Detroit.
I have had no problems at Cathedral Tower during my 1/2 year stay so far. A leaky pipe in my ceiling caused the tile to saturate and crumble, but that was repaired in a timely manner. It is VERY quiet in the building, great for hard-working students/faculty/everyday person.
Elevators are reliable, laundary is clean and efficient, as are hallways and other common spaces. The lounge is on the top (18th floor) with the most amazing view of the Detroit skyline that Midtown has to offer.
All in all, Cathedral Tower is home. Neighbors are like family and it is everything that a community should be.
1. I rated parking as 3 stars only because it is significantly more costly than most other apartment complexes that I have shopped at. I save on this expense by parking in a nearby lot for a monthly fee.
2. Noise level gets a top rating.
3. The only concern regarding the grounds is that the dumpster sits out in the open at the property enterance and smells pretty bad. Not a great first impression, but very minor, IMO.
4. Safety: A
5. Construction: The walls are thin, so if noise making is your thing, CT isn't for you. Appliances are what you'd expect from (1980s') but in great working condition. Again, expect a smaller space as well.
6. No problems with maintenance. They are just as much a part of the friendly and professional staff.
7. Everyone in the office is excellent! I wish more apartment complexes had such a supurb staff!
8.
