All I can say is that this is a very sad community right now!! It's very depressing to see how this community has drastically fallen. Years ago, this community was clean, safe, cozy and very comfortable. As of now, I only have my view of Downtown, the location and Lafayette Park keeping me here for the next month (Oh, I can't forget about the freight elevator). There is no way that I intend to lease here with excessive maintenance, elevator issues, and heating and water issues constantly. I know that we have been through several ownerships within the last 6 months. And, our current owners are truly trying to update somewhat! Kudos to them for trying! However, as I've stated above; this community is still falling drastically! Many, many expensive upgrades/repairs are needed to clear up this issue as the community is very old. If you are planning to move here, please make sure to do your research!

Brand new elevators are being put in. It will take a long time for completion. It is a pain while they are being worked on but it is long over due and it will be wonderful when done.

You're right! I'm sure the elevators will be wonderful when it's 'FINALLY' completed. However, what about the rest of the structure, i.e., heating, plumbing (water leaks), rusty kitchen cabinets, drywall, ventilation, etc.? If I were management, I would be embarassed to show an apartment with these issues. Hopefully, these updates are coming up as well because Lafayette Towers could truly be a gem again! Good luck!
