Luxury in Detroit'

I shall start with the positives: thick walls= no noise, spacious apartments and nice location, for Detroit.

My negative experiences, however, far outweigh the positives. Upon moving into my apartment, management informed me that I must physically move my belongings through the loading dock area. Fine. I arrive at the specified area with a load of my belongings and after moving said belongings into my apartment I return to my storage location to pick up another car full. Be mindful that dock time is, supposedly, reserved. I return to the Millender Center and am now forced to use the second, much smaller area to unload my belongings. When I inquire as to why nobody informed that the loading dock is on a first come first serve basis(after I reserved time) I receive no answer. Fine. However, what I soon learn is that my Tahoe and Grand Marquis full of my belongings are only able to park in the loading dock with the door closed (it is Detroit and closing the loading dock doors is management?s policy not my request); while consequentially now I am unable to unload my vehicles. How to resolve this problem' I must physically move an overflowing dumpster beside my cars. Did I mention I could not exit my car from the driver?s side, instead I crawled across to the passenger?s ( dumper?s) side. I ask the Millender Center employee for some help, and to my chagrin my apartment complex employs incompetent simpletons unwilling to assist residents in any way. Needless to say, unloading my belongings occupied much more time than duly needed, and my clothes, furniture, etc have become saturated with a pungent dumpster smell still present after weeks.

After moving my belongings into my apartment, I quickly realized the dumpster smell had filled my rooms. Combine that vomit-inducing odor with the fresh paint smell and agony is all I felt. Should I open a window for ventilation; well the windows have no screens and the bugs living outside my windows are eagerly awaiting the chance to take up residence inside my apartment.

On a side note, regarding safety, I live on the 30th floor and a lack of screens is not only unsafe for myself but also prevents me from having family members, both you and old alike. Moreover, after a young lady plunged to her death from a Millender Center window- 13 floors BELOW me- a month ago, safety should presumably be priority one. Need I mention legal recourse to negligence'

Lastly, my dishwasher has begun, after infrequent use, to leak large puddles onto my kitchen floor. And my air conditoner has failed to work properly. After my first interaction with Millender Center employess, I very much would rather endure the problems, until I move, then call maintaince.

Needless to say, I have decided to terminate my lease, opting to pay the cancelation fee, and move into a new apartment. I shall not belabor the point concerning management?s ineptitude, except to say moving out is becoming as laborious as moving in.

In summary, the apartment has fine characteristics, however, if one must interact with Millender Center staff, which is nearly inescapable, and absent interaction with the leasing office- where courtesy is well had, boorish behavior is all to expect.
