The place is quiet and friendly. I feel 100% safe in and around the complex. It is downtown Detroit. There's a 2- or 3-day-per-week hip-hop club kitty corner, and some of the neighbors don't have permanent addresses. The staff is responsive and quick.
But the People Mover goes through the building, you can get your hair cut, teeth drilled and eyes checked without going outside (some of that at RenCen, connected by skywalk. There's a post office there and two Starbucks.) It's eight blocks to the ballpark, less to the Opera House, three blocks to a casino, easy access to the riverwalk for jogging, and the Marriott Courtyard pool, whirlpool, health club and rooftop tennis courts and track are free for our use. With the Detroit real estate market depressed and my job downtown, I don't know why I'd live anywhere else.

Your experience is interesting, and while the amenities are noteworthy, the personnel staff make it not worth it.
The security director, AL, is unabeleivable, he lives in the building, right next to the leasing center, and he is as -------. This man follwed me on a number of occassions, at first, I thought it was me, but after improving my observations and talking to other residents, I knew it was true. Once I even caught him leaning his ear against my apt door, and I was not in the apt, I noticed this as I was, coming around the corner from the elevators, when he say me, He jumped and said, 'oh", and so "yes'. he said he had a call from security, and I said 'what caLL', he never answered my question, but replied, I knocked, but there was no answer. At, that point, it dawned on me, if I was did not come aroud the corner, would he have used his key to go in, and I wondered, had he done that already. I was shaken to my core, I did not know how to respond. So, I reported this to managemmnet staff, the director, CHRIS, was rude, and treated me like I was suspect, I never found out, about the so called, 'call from secuirty'and the manager/director-Chris, told me that it was his job to check out calls from secuirty. I asked why did'nt I receive a call, and her response was, they are not suppose to call residents, they make the report and it is checked out. I could not beleive it, and she looked at me like, 'TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT", I deceided to leave it, and gave them my thirity day notice, when my lease expired. The monwey was not worth the hassle. Take my word, for it DO NOT MOVE INTO THE MILLENDER CENTER APTS. Especaily, if you are a single female.
