Research Park...low and no income projects

I lived there to go to college until enough was enough. They are off the campus of wayne state university but so close to the campus, right behind the WSU football field to be exact. Several of us thought it would benefit us to go to school full time and work sparingly. I only lasted one year or so to fulfill the lease and save up to move closer to the campus.

I moved there in the winter. It was around spring time that I realized I made a seriously bad move. These are project housing for low or no income persons...so the idea of paying little to no rent would be attractive to anyone especially the average student..right' wrong!

If you are in any type of rehab, getting SSI, or just love to use and/or sell drugs...this is the spot! you will love it here! ex-criminals, present criminals, future criminals...all welcome.

I remember the night in 2004 the female security guard got jumped bad. Oh yeah..the whole month in '05 the kids and teenagers busted the vending machines to retrieve the snacks...they left the coins.
Oh the smell of drugs that great you in the morning and awaken you to start your day.

When you park your car there is always someone looking...just look around you will meet the eyes either in the next row or car eyeing you. WHen you get out with all your heavy bags of groceries you will be greeted by at least 5-10 people in front of the building's entrance.
Dont worry..they will not offer to help you. When you enter you will find that the elevator is still out of order from several months ago or that once its fixed the teenagers are playing on them so they dont come down to the main level.

So....you then walk back out of building to enter the fire escape, it's an enclosed stairwell, and then climb the flights.
Oh and the best part of the whole living experience at Research Park was the fights in the hallways or in the apartments that ended up in the hallways and the NARCO Raids!

I miss the adrenaline rush of that environment...but for what it is worth...just dont do it. Even if you are a freeloading college student like many of us were.
