Best location, views, and amenitied of any apartment complex in Detroit. Very convenient, enclosed walkway to the Joe Louis Arena PeopleMover station, plus it's easy to walk to Hart Plaza, etc. A few other places (like Millender Center Apts) in the heart of downtown (Riverfront Towers is on the western edge of the immediate downtown area) are nice, but because of their location, they don't have any grass or trees! Riverfront Towers does have nice, grassy area, and a nice 'boardwalk' area with benches, trees, shrubs, and grass. Downtown living is fun, but it's relaxing to be able to walk on GRASS occasionally!
The apartments are nice, modern, and all have at least somewhat of a view of the Detroit River, which is just 100' or so away from the 3 tall apartment towers. Tenants are (mostly) well-educated, decent people -- no real problems with loud music at all hours. Many are professionals -- Drs, lawyers, business execs, WSU grad students, retirees, etc. plus of course the occasional management-level drug dealer, who is astute enoguh to not attract attention by doing that type of thing at the complex. Some tenants, however, are so filthy-rich that they have no common-sense or common courtesy -- they park wherever they want. Management doesn't have the decency or balls to enforce much against these tenants, so for example the few lazy/stupid tenants that chronically park right in front of the buildings, rarely even get a slap on the wrist. I'm always amazed at the complete & utter FAILURE of management to recognize and resolve some minor quality of life issues -- lawn sprinklers spraying the sidewalks, and being on during hours when people are likely to be out & about, instead of at 3AM, the previously mentioned parking annoyances, and an **exterior** problem with r-a-t-s.
Those tenants who aren't complacent about some of these issues are learning to bypass Riverfront management, and take their complaints to the proper city of Detroit agency, or the complex management firm's parent office in Chicago. These problems are the type that could occur at anay apartment complex. What boggles my mind is how management *here* can get away with failing to address the issues, in spite of the high rental rates and their efforts to spread the perception that Riverfront Towers is so elite...
The leasing agents are nice and helpful. The incompetence & complancy is strictly with the management staff.
Security is decent. Physical security is pretty good, but obviously after living here for a while, I've seen some vulnerabilities that most crooks wouldn't be aware of. Lots of very promenent people live here, AND due to the downtown location, police/fire/EMS response is rapid (but not frequently needed). The complex has uniformed guards on patrol 24-7, plus one or two people in the gatehouse at the entrance to the complex.
The Health Club (pool/hot tub/sauna plus exercise equipment & racquetball court) is nice, but membership is an extra charge, as is parking, for some stupid reason.
My apartment has a built-in washer & dryer, as do I think pretty much all of them. Howeever there are also plenty of larger, commercial washers & dryers in community laundry rooms on one floor in each of the three apartment buildings.
Even if you don't have a boat, the marina is nice -- the boaters are all very friendly, and it's very relaxing to see the marina, as well as all the river traffic.
Summary -- expensive, but the best place in Detroit -- very close to all the events & attractions of downtown Detroit, yet also pretty quiet, comfortable living once you're back in your apartment, with many nice amenities inside the complex. Between the well-stocked grocery store, health club, video rental store, and cafe/bar, you really don't need to leave the complex!
