Our experience here has been simply awful. I apologize for the length of this review, but feel it's important and necessary to educate anyone about the potential pitfalls of renting at Walkabout Creek Apartments in Dexter, MI. Here are the top reasons why I highly discourage anyone from renting here:

1. No privacy: We we're in building 2290, near the Clubhouse and we're surrounded by kids and inattentive parents. I understand kids will be kids, make noise, etc. What I don't understand are parents that fail to monitor what they are doing half the time. We hear kids yelling and screaming from the time we get home from work in the evening until the time we go to bed. Sometimes as late as 10:30 at night. Our vehicles have been hit with toys on numerous occasions. Neighbors have little respect for your private space, allowing their children to play literally right in front of your window. You might as well keep your blinds closed and earplugs in. We've never had the opportunity to really enjoy our outside patio for these reasons. To be fair, you don't have to deal with this much through the winter months, but as soon as that nice weather hits, look out. Considering the fact that there's a pool and a play area on the grounds, you'd think parents would encourage their children to play there and not in front of your window and in the parking lot.

2. Sketchy Neighbors: Upon first moving in, we we're happily greeted by our next door neighbor, whom we later learned had just moved back in with his wife/ex-wife' after being in the slammer for some time. Cool. He was a nice enough guy, but the fact that he carried on with dealing drugs (they also had 2 young children) in the parking lot every day, was not cool. We would watch as several random vehicles pulled in and out of our complex each day, while bills and plastic baggies we're so conspicuously exchanged. More than likely it was just weed, but nonetheless, not the kind of thing you want to see going on outside your window in a parking lot full of kids, right' We let it pass the first few times, but later on, after we overheard him talking about his gun, we decided to put in a complaint to management. After some time had past (apparently drug dealing and neighbors with guns isn't much of a concern for management) we finally received a very poorly written letter (forgot to run spell check) from management. In a nutshell, it basically stated that although they are concerned and care about the community's safety, they can't really do anything about it unless we can put on our detective hats and thoroughly document suspects, vehicle plates, specific time of occurrences, etc. Just what we wanted to do. Needless to say, these neighbors unexpectedly moved out one weekend when we we're out of town. Problem solved, I guess. Just don't expect management to go out of their way for you when problems arise. At least in our experience through all this.

3. Poor maintenance staff: It took us nearly 2 weeks of phone calls into management just to have maintenance come and look at our dryer, which really needs to be trashed and replaced because it's barely working. After coming out a couple times, they speculated it was a timing issue and apparently replaced something. There has been no difference in performance since they supposedly replaced the part over 6 months ago. The dryer, at least in our unit, is far beyond any hope of repair. It literally takes 70 minutes just to dry a normal size load of laundry. Expect a noticeable jump in your utility bill if you plan on doing laundry on a regular basis. You may be better off just going to the laundromat. At least they seem to keep up with the lawn on a fairly regular basis now.

All in all, this has been a very negative experience for us and I encourage anyone who is considering living at Walkabout Creek Apartments in Dexter, MI to consider an alternative. It doesn't help matters that there aren't many alternatives for renting in Dexter, unfortunately. Walkabout Creek Apartments in Dexter, MI seems to be the only complex in the area that we could find. The downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods are very nice and have a lot of charming older homes and buildings that occasionally become rentals. I suggest starting there in your search. And if you see the Walkabout Creek Apartments sign off Baker Rd. in Dexter, MI, do yourself a huge favor and keep driving.

I'm glad to hear another resident at Walkabout Creek Apartments can relate to my experience here. You're absolutely right about the quality of people that seem to live here. They are not the type of people I would consider respectful, responsible and law-abiding citizens. I must say, it's a relief to hear there actually are educated, considerate residents here! I like your story about the pot smoking neighbors. It reminds me of our previous drug dealing neighbor and now, the people that replaced them. Just the other night, they we're blazing it up as their obnoxious children we're terrorizing the parking lot. Unsupervised as usual. This place just plain sucks. We move out this weekend and I couldn't be happier!

I just read your response. You're lucky you were able to escape. I hope to in a few months. Once again, I'm listening to video games being played at an extremely loud volume, which is something I don't appreciate after working all day. I have to say, for the sake of fairness, that I have met a few other educated, considerate residents here, but the majority seen to belong to that category, "dregs of society." Good luck to you!
