Find a newer building

First the good stuff:
The staff is very nice; despite what others say about adherence to lease, they were very flexible with us when we had to move out early.
Rent is reasonable considering proximity to campus--however, if you have classes on South Campus, you have to walk up to Grand River, over to Hagadorn, and then back down again...it'd be nice if there was a bridge behind the complex.
Cable is cheap and parking was never a problem.
THE BAD STUFF...
The building is old and so is everything in it--including the plumbing. In the year I lived there, we had our hot water heater replaced, our kitchen plumbing replaced, and our bathtub and bathroom sink worked on. All the repairs were associated with catastrophe--the hot water heater blew and flooded our whole apartment and the hallway, the bathtub was leaking into the hall closet, and the pipe under the kitchen sink literally came off. Water damage was never repaired--they just shop-vacced the carpet and called it good. Ventilation is not so great either--it always smells like old food and mold in the halls and apts.
The windows are not insulated very well, and our apt was located so that it caught a lot of wind. Our electric bills were UNBELIEVABLE, especially compared to what we were paying to BWL when we lived in another district.
There is no noise from apts above and below, but the side walls are NOT concrete; we could hear the dialogue in every television show our neighbors watched. Also, a lot of people like to have parties on their balconies. On weeknights. And they're not terribly friendly when you ask them to take it inside. And the noise from jackhammers repairing balconies was awful...esp. in summer.
Laundry facilities are small and overpriced.
Bottom line: go find a newer building. You might have a farther commute, but it is worth it. If you love the location, try Capitol Villa...just make sure you don't get a ground level apartment (that is another review...)
