I just renewed my lease here, but I'm not entirely happy about it. It would just have been too much inconvenience to move since I know I'll move again at the end of this lease. In any case, there were some big promises made about when certain things would be remodelled, and now it seems the work has flat-out stopped. The rent is somewhat reasonable, but when you add, water, sewage, trash, and electric, you're looking at 150 a month more at the very least. When I talked to Dawn, she said electric would be at most 80 dollars a month more. My wife and I were extremely frugal with our electric heating and ended up paying 115/month on average for electric. Add to that that some complexes like Berrytree also include heat, cable and internet, and you feel somewhat shafted. The common areas can get really filthy, especially the elevator. There is no security in the building to speak of. There are loud parties constantly (one in the parking lot not long ago, for Pete's sake). The walls are somewhat thin. The gym has outdated equipment save for a bike and treadmill that are passable. This would not be an entirely bad place to live in if the rent was at least 100/mo less, renovations or not. Proximity to campus is also another reason I renewed my lease, but if you're just moving to East Lansing for the first time, I'd suggest you rent elsewhere.
