Pretty, But With Many Rough Edges

I *might* recommend Hillcrest Village to a very particular type of person, but only with a number of caveats. First, don't expect the aging buildings to be in the best shape. The old brick structures are beautiful, easily the most attractive complex in the Lansing area. But they are quite literally falling apart in some places, and I experienced this firsthand with a roof cave-in in my bathroom last year.
The maintenance staff has been pretty uneven. A couple of folks, particularly the night manager, have been kind, prompt and helpful. On the other hand, try to get a sink fixed in short of a week and you'll be sorely disappointed.
The exposed plaster from my ceiling cave-in is still visible, torn wallpaper and all, ten months after the original incident. I'm moving out at the end of my lease, the management company had the audacity to try to raise my rent by $50 a month after leaving my bathroom a shambles for nearly a year.
Much of the apartment, particularly the shower fixtures and lighting have a precarious and jerry-rigged quality to them. And it is hard to find an outlet.
To say that the kitchen lacks amenities is an enormous understatement. No disposal, no dishwasher, manual defrost freezer in a small fridge, no counter space, single basin sink, not even a spray nozzle attached. Low profile oven and very little room in the broom closet.
The principal selling point of these apartments is the beauty of the complex, and special care is taken with the grounds. If half the attention were paid the interiors and functional apparatus within the buildings, I might have renewed my lease this year.
