The newer buildings

I lived in the new buildings that feature more amenities than the other older building that feature more of the park-like landscaping and windows.
Pros: We got a great deal to move in. $490 for a two bed one bath. 900 sq ft. Rooms are decently sized. Lots of parking. Can buy a carport for $15 a month. Close to MSU's campus (we rode our bikes). Close to the highways (127 and 496). Can walk to Frandor and the park behind the complex has a sledding hill. Beautiful landscaping. They take really good care of the grounds, with snow removal and lawn care. We have a dishwasher, and a double sink in the kitchen. The master bedroom has a walk in closet with a changing room at the end with a sink! and a door to the bathroom, which was really cool. Lots of outlets in every room. And lots of closet space. 7 closets total. Laundry room on the first floor of our building.
Cons: Bug problems. Flying ants, even in the winter. Windows aren't insulated, and anything near them gets cold as ice in the winter. Two bikes stolen (both chained up to the bike rack). Packages stolen (they are left at your security door, where anyone can just pick it up, and they have, numerous times). There's security at night, but they don't do anything but park in the entry way to the parking lot. They also TALK extremely loud so that I can hear them in my apartment. They don't know what they're doing half the time, as I've had people park in my reserved spot and one guy helped, called PACE and had forms for me to fill out, and another had no idea what to do, and said I had to wait for the office to open up in the morning. I was locked out of my apartment during business hours and ran to the office to get someone to let me in (I was doing laundry and had no socks or shoes on) and the office was closed a half hour after they were supposed to be back, and I was waiting outside in the snow for someone to come back with nothing on my feet. Walls are kind of thin (I hear my upstairs neighbors running about like elephants, I really wonder what they're doing sometimes, and I can hear my floor neighbor's kids yelling and then the parents yelling at the kids for yelling). The office mistook our move in day and didn't have the forms ready (it didn't effect us at all really, but it's something someone else might consider). The laundry room only has one washer and one dryer and the ones in my building are constantly breaking. We talked to someone at the office and they said "oh yeah, they're like 15 years old!" Washer and dryers AREN'T meant to last that long. And in turn we waste $1.25 (per use of each machine) every time they break and we don't know about it.
Overall it's a nice place, and our rent is cheap. It's probably a lot nicer than s lot of places in East Lansing. There's just the annoyances that build up that you notice when you've lived in a REALLY great complex. I don't know how much rent normally is, as we got a deal, but for this price, it's going to be the best place in East Lansing.

I'm really interested in moving into the new apartments. Was noise a serious problem? Like a constant annoyance? Because I'm a student and I'd need quiet, but this is the best place I can find for this price. And as for the bugs, did you ever try insulating the windows, like caulking them? I wonder if that would've helped. And also about the packages - that scares me pretty bad. haha. But even with all those problems you'd still recommend it?
