Exceptional place to live

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008

I just moved in May 2008,, 4 months ago, and live in the older units. The outside of the units is fabulous, really like a well maintained park with nice grass, tall shade trees, paint and such kept up. The apartment inside is about 70 years old, and shows the age some, but the units are solid. The older units have a lot of charm with the oak floors throughout. The walls between apartments is pretty good for sound containment, the floors between apartments are not as insulated but not a problem. The helpfulness of the office staff, Tammy and Tina, could not be improved on, and the maintenance guys, Dave, Dan, and Josh, are really super. The whole staff takes a sense of ownership over the management/upkeep of the place. Their pride in their work shows. I've had some problems with an oven and removing an unused steam heater and every request has been quickly addressed and professionally handled. The layout of the older units allows for windows on both sides of the apartment (east and west, or north and south) so a cross breeze is easy to get for cooling, as well as light.
I've never had a problem getting a parking place, even late at night.
The laundry room in the next building has always been available when I needed it, and broken washers are repaired quickly.
I feel safe in the unit.
The older units have 2 prong electrical outlets (except in the kitchen and bathroom due to code requirements), and not many outlets are in the unit. That goes with a unit built in 1939.
The rent is a good deal. I pay $545 for a one bedroom unit. It's a one mile walk to the north side of the MSU campus.
