I have lived in a remodeled 2b 1bath apartment for the past 2 years with a roommate I met on an MSU housing board, and we have been super happy. Thankfully we like each other, because the walls are thin so we can hear each other and our neighbors, but that is my only complaint. The upsides are many: $407/month each pays for rent and all utilities. And I mean all: heating, water, electricity, high speed internet, gas, cable...it is an awesome deal. The laundry facilities are very nice although they can be a little far depending on which building you live in. There are a lot of families with kids here, and pretty much no undergrads, so if you like a more studious, quiet environment this is good. Also free maintenance! And super, super prompt. Like within a few hours of calling. They change your light bulbs, they fix your window, they deal with plumbing--this seriously is the best rental housing arrangement I have ever had. The one caveat is that you MUST get the remodeled apartment and not the old one. The old ones are ancient and awful. But seriously for me moving here from out of state I just totally lucked out, and I can't say enough good things about it.
