Lot's of creepy crawly bugs during the fall but maybe more importantly, read the fine print of the rental contact. For example, the common areas - pool, gym, tennis courts - "the owner is under no obligation to provide any of the common areas". As a result some of the facilities, and the gym in particular, are not very well maintained.

The on-site property manager used that to shut me up when I complained about the sad state of the gym.
