very nice units, friendly community... But a couple concerns

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
We had a 2 bed 2 bath 2nd floor unit that was amazingly nice (new appliances, modern, clean) and actually paid only 2/3 of the original rental price because they gave us a special offer, otherwise there was no way we would be able to live here. Check out their special pricing, it's worth asking.
Our neighbors are respectful and friendly, but I know that some areas of the complex are noisier than others, whether that is because of parties or kids running around yelling. But seriously, the insulating walls are wonderful and MUCH more noise resistant than any other apartment I've lived in before, so noise is rarely an issue, even when your neighbors are cranking the music below.
The maintenance staff are very nice and get things done ASAP. But we had asked to be called before they entered our apartment (since I have 2 dogs) to make sure that someone was home at the time- this never happened, and I don't know if the office staff just did not care to tell maintenance to call me first or what. If your animals would freak-out or react negatively when a stranger enters your apartment (alone) then this would be a concern, fortunately my dogs are friendly about strangers for the most part- The point is that my assurances that I would be called before ANYONE entered my apartment were plainly ignored.
The indoor pool and exercise room were newly renovated this summer, and they are excellent. There is also a larger outdoor pool, sauna, and tennis courts too- all very nice shape. I wish we had used them more often!
A lot of people here have dogs, and cats, so very pet friendly. I just found out that they now restrict new residents to only 1 dog instead of 2, which is unfortunate I think since I have 2smaller dogs that have been doing so well here.
I really never talked much to the management staff. There have not been very many concerns for me to talk to them about, but as long as you give them rent each month on time I don't see why they would be a hassle. (On time is the 1st with a couple days of "grace period" before they contact you).
The "gated community" is a Joke. I never go through the resident (gate-card) entrance; I just go up to the left side (for visitors), wave at the person in the booth, and they lift the gate to let you pass. Your friends, family, or anyone else will never have to call you to get into the complex- they can just look like they want to get in and drive through. To me, this is not a "secure gated community" when all you have is a gate that opens for anyone. But really the area is so safe that I don't care, I just think it is a waste of the residents' money to pay someone for 7 hours to press a button that lifts a gate.
Also, their application process is VERY STRICT and you better have good credit, make more money than you need for the apartment, or have a CO-signer that also has to sign your lease. Yes, the co-signer has to SIGN ONTO THE LEASE TOO, even though that person will not be living there. I remember it was kind of ridiculous the process that we had to go through.
We are in need of downsizing, and cannot afford to stay another year here- otherwise we either would be staying or getting a house.
