As a resident of Independence Green for a few years now it seems that many reviewers here and I have had the same experiences. I had flying ants infesting my bathroom. Even after the exterminators came they still thrived. I had to buy my own ant killer to eradicate them. The heat either doesn't work, or doesn't turn off, and in the winter the showers are cold after about 1 minute. Also IG tried to tow my boyfriend's car away without notification. They put the notification on another car. Someone had stolen the tags off of his plate back to 2002. Instead of contacting us, they tried to tow the car. When I confronted the staff about this they said "you would have to pay a small fee to get the car out of impound". So make sure if you are going to live here that you check your plates frequently becuase one day you might not have a car. Also there is a lot of crime here, but now there is a security company that drives around to "protect" us.

My boyfriend and I just signed a lease for next month. I'm from up-north, Traverse City area, and he's from a small town. After reading this, I'm really debating as to whether or not we should just suck it up, and break the lease. Do you really think it's THAT bad where it would be worth it. It's not such a huge deal for me, but he's a hypochondriac about being safe. We have leased a one-bedroom, remodeled unit, on the first floor. During our tour, everything looked great, and seeing it is in Farmington Hills, we suspected we were in a safe area. He's planning on moving in next week, but now, this is making us both think twice. Please respond honestly... this will cost us a lot, but last time I checked, our lives were a little more important. :)

I would seriously urge you not to move to this complex if the following is of concern. Very old construction Old thin window panes Old heat venting system that attracts nasty bugs Nasty golfcourse Ghetto fabulous 30 kids walking in the middle of the road in the complex You can hear through the paper thin walls Check the crime report if you would like, the FH police department has to disclose it, it will essentially reiterate to the fact that several felonys have occured in the complex. The market is so geared into house buying, that apartments are giving great deals, nice ones, not like that suburbun ghetto. Hope this helps, |

Please do not move there. I was injured on the property so seriously that after a year of "sucking it up", I have perminant nerve damage. My review of the place is also on this site....IGA _will not_ put your health and safety first; be sure you do!

About the crime, we got a notice on our doors a couple weeks ago that said there was a recent burglary and assault. It said that their hearts to out to the friends and family of the victim. What does that mean? Anyway, I heard that this was NOT an isolated incident, and that it was even on the news. I didn't see the report, but I have had numerous friends and family that did and called to warn me. I live on the first floor, which I loved, with the view and patio, but I haven't opened my windows or doorwall since, and I carry mace now. I do not feel safe here anymore.

Dont even think about joining this place. I signed a lease for an year and then stayed in IGA for 2 months and then gave a 2 month notice and vacated my house during the two months i stayed at my brothers place. Just handed over my keys at the end of two months and paid the lease breaking fee of one months rent. It is just not worth it. you will have to pay a lot in hospital charges if you live here(if one does not shoot you or stab you in the first month). It is a place infested by drug dealers and prostitutes. I have seen a guy dealing drugs and all of kinds of people coming to buy them in the in the same block. It is more of a suburban dump than an apartment complex. Even one does not have to do anything with your neighbours and minds his own business, but still it is dangerous. There are bunch of goons watching you when you come out. My girl friend used to run to the car when she came out of my apartment |

I love living here. As far as crime goes, good luck finding a place that is 100% Crime Free - no one can guarantee safety ANYWHERE....I have found that living here has been wonderful. I really like the staff and seem to have all my issues resolved within 24 hours. I have no idea what these people are talking about with the comments of health problems, I've lived here for 4 years and I've never had 1 single issue with health or crime (and i live on the first floor!) |
