I was a tenant at Independence Green for 11 months and moved out at the end of August, 2007. When I moved out, I left my forward address so that they can mail the balance of my safety deposit to my new address. It s been 3 months, but I still haven t received the balance of my safety deposit! I called their office quite a few times regarding this issue, but no effect. They told me they couldn t find my forward address, which is ridiculous. I still keep a copy of the forward address with the signature of one of their employees. Now they even refuse to answer my phone calls. It s really disappointing!

Well as disappointing as it is, please feel relieved that they didn't try to CHARGE you for moving out. I moved in with the $99 non-refundable deposit, but when I moved out, they claimed I never paid my full security deposit, so I still owed them money. Plus, I returned my keys in the drop box on a Saturday, which was my move out day, but they wanted to charge me 2 days rent for the next month because they were closed over the weekend and didn't officially receive my keys until Monday! Anything to make you pay more than you should. I fought them enough that I finally had all the charges wiped clean, but that's how they do business, unfortunately.

This crazy?!?! And only because this is the same issue that happened to me. They tried telling me that I didnt pay my full rent - when I have the check and a signature of who accepted the check. I hope people read these and stay as far away from this complex as possible.

in michigan it is against the law to keep your security deposit without a written notice from them within 30 days of you moving out. in they failed to give written notice, you can take them to small claims and sue for double, and get it. i had to go thru it with a landlord. it was worth the hour in court. it is a law.
