I lived in a two bedroom apartment at Independence Green from 2006-2007.
Overall I was pretty happy with the place. I loved having a washer and drier in the apartment because I have really sensitive skin and can't share detergents with anyone else.
My roommate let me have the bigger room which was really nice and I was in love with the closet.
Like any place there were a few problems here and there. They always got fixed though. Our refrigerator had some issues and they immediately replaced it with a brand new one which was awesome.
The price was manageable, the utilities were manageable.
I really liked being close to the highway.
I got to have my cats there which was really cool.
The biggest problem was the neighbors right below me who just sucked but we all talked to the management about it and they told us that if we still had problems with each other we had the option to move into a different apartment if we wanted. They ended up moving out before us anyway which was fine. After that we had no problems at all with out neighbors.
Yeah, they did have a small problem with the heat at one point in the winter but they got it fixed as soon as they could. I just turned the broiler on in the oven and left it running while I was home. haha. It worked pretty well.
My roommate had previously lived there with his ex-girlfriend and after they broke up he transfered to the two bedroom apartment with me (we worked together)
The reason I moved out is because my roommate wanted to look for his own one bedroom apartment closer to Canton. I moved in with my boyfriend at the time. Now my boyfriend and I are looking for our own apartment and we even considered moving back to IG but he wanted to live closer to the Belleville area.
It wasn't perfect but I really can't complain. Every place is going to have the normal issues of living in an apartment community.
I would move back into IG again if I wanted to be in the Farmington Area. I would recommend it to my friends.
I've lived in a lot of different areas around the Detroit metro area and this was certainly not the worst.
Just wanted to write something up because we've been looking at apartments again and I see so much negativity on these boards. You can't go completely by that.

are you kidding me, you had to use your oven to heat your apartment...and i'm sure they didn't tell you how on average, one car is stolen from the parking lots every month in the complex, not to mention the several drug busts that have gone down in the area. Get a clue, if you want the real story, ask the farmington hills police department, they'll tell you that this place is one of the worst in the area.

I'm sure you'd reconsider your position if your downstairs neighbors we're selling crack (not exaggerating) or your car was one of the many stolen or if your significant other was robbed at knife point. The complex should be condemned and the management company should be held liable. P.S. heating your apartment with the oven is unsafe and you're lucky you didn't burn down the entire complex, or maybe the rest of us are unlucky that your stupidity and ignorance didn't wipe the blight known as IGA off the map.

I don't work for the apartment complex. Go to my myspace account and you can look. http://www.myspace.com/elys3 I find a lot of the people on these boards extremely rude. You would never talk to someone in person the way you talk to them online. If you don't like a certain area get off your ass and go to work and buy your own house and then you can blame yourself for all of your problems. I can't believe I'm even bothering to reply to this because it's really childish. It seems that a lot of people on here are really immature and need to grow up. Using the internet to flame people you don't even know is really IGNORANT. I wouldn't want to have you as a tenant in my apartment and I wouldn't want to know you at all based on how you treat people online. This is the last response I make about this. You all can go on acting like children all you want.

Elys3 ~ You're wrong. I would totally talk like this to you in person, but that's neither here nor there. Get off my ass and go to work? I do, dear, and EVERYDAY! Plus I go to school full-time and am ready to graduate next year with a DOUBLE MAJOR. I'm also on the Dean's List with a 3.56 GPA. I'd consider myself FAR from being ignorant. Also, I am a big enough person to apologize for calling you an idiot. I truly apologize, but obviously you haven't had the experience that most of us have. It will come, I have no doubt. But I admit it was very childish of me to attack you on a personal level. That's how ANGRY I am at this complex and I shouldn't have taken it out on you.

Ok, Elys3, I would say everything on here to someones face and yours if you disagreed. I've been living in apartments for 7 years and have had a number of problems with disagreements in policies and other random problems, but as bad as they seem, they always get worked out. Not at IGA they don't, this has honestly been the worst decision I've made in my life, and I've made a few. I have 2 friends who are FH cops and they will tell you the same.
