I lived in Independence Green from 2006-2008. This summer they are not opening the golf course so its being used as a park. There are no lights and no security. In many apartments the sewage lines running inside the walls leak creating black mold in the walls and inside the apartments. The plumbing leaks inside the walls causing damage to walls and leaks into the apartment. The heating is radiators using hot water and the heating pipes which run through the ceilings leak causing mold, damage to the structure and leaks into the apartment. They charge at least $60 year round for heat. There is never any parking. You car may be broken into or damaged. You can hear all your neighbors, you can hear people outside or in other buildings. There is constant noise at all hours including fighting, large barking dogs, domestic violence, partying, loud music, TVs, etc. The office will not even enforce its own policies. Even though there are break-ins, theft, etc. the apartment complex does not divulge the amount of crimes. There are pedofiles, drug dealers, peeping toms and thieves living in the complex. The office denies this but they also do not know who is living or staying in the apartments regardless of who is on the lease. When I moved in the apartment complex was better but now its a Ghetto run by corporate slumlords. The pool is not cleaned on a regular basis. The golf course was built on wetlands which are part of the Upper Rouge River. Trash is strewn everywhere across the property and pollutes the water. Because of trash in the water there are places where the water stagnates causing mosquitos to breed as well as other pests. The air inside many apartments is so toxic that you wake up with a headache every day and can even may you feel like you want to throw up. The appliances are a joke because the do not work properly, are 30 years old and use tons of energy costing hundreds of dollars in your electric bill. The single pane aluminum clad windows and doors provide little insulation, allow insects to get inside and leak sometimes to the point where its raining inside the apartment. There are several apartment complexes nearby which are all cheaper, nicer, better maintained, etc. Go elsewhere.

You are totally right! I have been here from '06-present, and it used to be better. This place is such a dump! I have duct tape over all of the cracks in the walls and over the hole in my floor to keep all kinds of bugs out. The crime rate is ridiculous, my boyfriends car has been broken into numerous times (always on a Friday night).Stay away from this place! Your gas bill is set at $63.00 every month, regardless if you use it or not. We moved in mostly for the golf course, but now that its a park, We see drug dealers/smugglers walking in front of and on our patio almost every night! If you care about your safety, dont move in here!

If you are still living here please contact Aimco and keep complaining. Yep it is a pain in the butt but Aimco is counting on residents to either give up, or is thinking we are too stupid to understand landlord tenant laws. One of the main reasons nothing gets done is that we don't complain in large numbers. It seems many people have resigned themselves to the idea that this stuff is normal for apartment living. It shouldn't be that way....So write those e-mails to residentrelations@aimco.com.
