My husband and I lived at Fenton Estates for 9 months. While the manager at the time was very nice, we did have some problems...our apartment was right across from the office. All I heard all day was people stomping up the stairs, slamming the door into our living room wall. When we first moved in, the carpet smelled horrible and we brought this to the attention of the staff. They told us not to worry about it, they would fix it. I asked if I needed to put this on the checklist. I was again told not to worry about it, because it was not physical damage. Throughout the 9 months, I must have spent hundreds on deodorizers and air fresheners. The man renting the unit before us had 2 cats and was growing pot in the front closet. We learned of this from all the neighbors who offered to back us should there be any problems. We had one cat, who was fixed and declawed. After the lease was up, and we had moved out, we received a $600 bill for replacing all the carpet in the whole unit. We told the new management that there should be a note in our file explaining what the previous manager said she would do. Of course, there was nothing there and since there was no record of the previous tenant having animals, we had to pay to recarpet the whole unit. What makes no sense is, we were told upon move in that the carpet was brand new, there was no way the previous tenant could have caused the damage. When my husband pulled up the carpet in the front closet, where the smell was, there were stains all the way through the pad to the floor boards...yet we hardly ever opened it due to the smell...how could our fixed cat have done that'''' Moral of the story is...mark everything on your checklist and don;t trust the staff...and don't expect your deposit to cover any damages!!!
