Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
We've been here for just over a year now, and are finally getting out. Some observations:
-It is DEFINITELY COLD in the lower apartments. The second bedroom is so drafty that we ended up just using it for storage, blocking off the vent, and blocking the door so we didn't have to pay to heat the outside. We bought 2 electric space heaters, one for the bedroom and one for the living room, because the gas heat couldn't keep up with the cold coming in. This is probably the worst part of living here.
-They are pet friendly, but almost too much so. We're not perfect pet owners by any means, but some of the crap they let people get away with (literally) is horrible.
-There are some very friendly residents, but there are a lot more who aren't so friendly. Our upstairs neighbor was evicted, and someone else in our building has the cops called on them at least 1-2 times/month.
-When the new management took over, they raised the rent considerably. When we moved in we had a deal (rent 13 months, get one free kind of thing), so when the lease was up our rent went up by $70/month (if we signed another year lease). We planned to move out this year and did a month-to-month lease for the remainder, which was $130 more than our previous rent!!!
-The fitness center is no good. The equipment is broken most of the times you go there.
-The layout isn't the most efficient use of the square footage. It's not terrible, but I'm sure there are better out there.
-Parking is hit-or-miss. Some people have problems with getting a carport spot. Our problem is this: only 1 car per house can park in the carport, but there are so many carports and so few uncovered spaces in our area of the complex that our 2nd car usually has to park a block away.
-The kitchen cabinets are built so low that you can't get many appliances under them, and there's nowhere else for them to go. My coffee pot, blender, and knife block have to live under the cupboard or on top of the fridge.
Washer and dryer are included.
We didn't have a lot of maintenance problems, but when we did the maintenance guy was really nice and helpful (the guy in the blue truck). Don't know about the other guys though.
Noise isn't too bad in our apartment. There is a dog next door that you can hear barking when you're outside, but you can't hear him when you're inside. That's pretty impressive to me. Of course you can hear the people above you, but I guess that's to be expected.
Cable is free. Hey, that's like a $50 credit right there, right'
