The only reason I chose Knollwood is because my co-worker lived here and I was new to the area. If I had only known how awful it was here! I'm not a person to complain like this, but since I'm moving to the east coast...here it goes!

PARKING: I have complained to the management several times because they DO NOT HAVE PARKING LINES painted. I asked if I could start a petition to show how many people would appreciate lines, but they said that nothing I do will convince them to paint the lines. It would be a "worthless effort" because they will "never paint those lines". It is such a nightmare parking here. If one person parks crooked, it's a total mess. I usually have to park on the other side of the building. It's worst in the winter because they don't plow parking areas and they don't shovel sidewalks until late morning. I get home from work at 11:30pm and have to trek across a parking lot and several yards of deep snow to reach the building. Ugh!

NOISE LEVEL: I fortunately have quiet neighbors to begin with. But what's worse is the smell level. My only window, in my bedroom, is directly facing a neighbor's porch. I could reach out and touch it. So whenever they cook out or smoke, my bedding reeks to high heaven. Building layout is utterly retarded here.

GROUND: Nothing special. There's a "golf course" but I rarely see anyone play. The sidewalks and roads are terrible. They are full of potholes and cracks. It's really bad when it rains. It's simliar to living in a lake.

SAFETY: Grand Blanc is pretty safe to begin with, but the Knollwood complex can be really shady at times, especially when I'm coming home from work. The building doors, to which we're all given a key, don't lock. They were pulled open so hard it looks as if the lock part was completely ripped off. I've been here 19 months and they haven't been fixed. So what's the point of a key' Parts of the parking area can get dark, but lights are usually replaced within the week.

CONSTRUCTION: True, this place was built in the 80's or something, but I mean come on! My one window does not close all the way. This winter was so bad, I resorted to sleeping on my couch, away from the drafty window. My shower drain was broken when I moved in (it wouldn't drain properly) but when I complained, their maintenance guy said it's because the pipes are old and he yelled at me when I used Drain-O. It's still broken; I bought my own plug from a dollar store and it works OK. My blinds and sliding door don't open all the way. I also complained to mgt my first week here...yeah, still broken. I just gave up on that one.

The most annoying thing that I highly reccomend checking before you sign any lease is LOOK AT THE DISHWASHER! I saw a dishwasher and was simply ecstatic. If only I had tried to open it up first! Yeah, you have to open the fridge in order to open the dishwasher because they were built too close together. It's such a pain in the butt. I mean, it works, but c'mon. Don't build a kitchen like that! Ugh!

MAINTENANCE: Very slow. Very hard to get a hold of. I resort to getting my screwdriver out and fixing myself. See details above.

OFFICE STAFF: I know it's not the greatest job, but they could atleast pretend. (That's what I do!) These people are hard to find, especially on weekends. Last week I went in with a question about moving out. There was only one person working, so I quietly waited in the hall while she spoke with some other client. She had the nerve to come out and say, word for word, "I can't help you now because I'm in the middle of another client!" And right in front of them, too! So what am I, if I'm not a client'! She threw up her hands and sighed loudly. Rude, eh'

OVERALL: I've seen worse (Perry Place apartments in Grand Blanc...yuck!!) But for the price I pay, I expect more. I would never on my worst enemy refer anyone to Knollwood. I would suggest Heatherwood or (maybe) Thornridge.
