Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
The main reason why I chose to live at Knollwood was because they were the only complex in the area to have an apartment ready as soon as I was approved. Approval only took 2 days, very fast. I moved into the largest aparment they had. Brand new carpet, which did shed briefly, but no complaints. Everything started off relatively good. Great neighbors, no noise. The only bad part was I had some out-of-towners living below me and everynight at 10p on the dot they'd start cooking some serious garlic in their food. Not a problem though. After approx 1 month of living there I went out to buy a new tv and I went for the digital cable as well. Hooked everything up and...nothing. No Hi-def channels worked. The cable running through the wall was discontinued in the 60's and was all chewed to hell (comcast a-holes showed me the wires when they pulled them out). Not a problem, got it replaced at my expense. So, then winter is setting in and squirrels are nesting outside the house in the trees...and inside the house. You can hear them running around in the living room ceiling. Maintenance said they would fix..ehh. never did. Toliets in both bathrooms went out, the plungers inside of them were so old they wouldn't hold a seal. Replaced those myself, but that wasn't in issue either. Then one night I was out in the living room at about 12a watching that new tv with my new cable just installed, then a big smash came from the back of the apartment. I ran to the back, thinking someone was breaking in through the window and I couldn't find anything. Looked all over the place then I saw that my mirror in the master bathroom had fallen off the wall. The screws came right out of my half-ass patched drywall. The sharpnel from the mirror shot into the bathroom door and made the biggest mess all over the carpet and tile. I called maintenance the next morning, they did do a good deed and come clean it up, But for the next 4 months I got to wake up and look at an old square of wallpaper from the 60's while I brushed my teeth. As winter set in I was having an issue with my consumers payment being like oh...$267.98. It was due to the cracks that have appeared by the windows because they are so old they're nearly falling out of the wall. I'm a modest guy, turn the heat off a night, run only the essentials. I think the only thing that stayed on was the computer, but not $267.98 worth of computer. Once again, not a big deal, so I put plastic up over all the windows to help insulate my cave I was living in. The cracks are so large in the windows that when the wind blows it blew 2 sided carpet tape with paint attached, right off the wall...
After 6 months, I know my 6 month lease is up and I want out. I only knew it was up because I had gotten a letter in the mail saying it was about to expire. So I go down to sign my 30 day and shake hands so I could part like a decent human being and then DJ, the wonderful college grad that signed me up says you signed a year agreement and am leased here until August(6 months later). Yes, ultimately my fault for being so wreckless by reading the fine print and not the large print at the top, but they had me in the computer as 6 months (she must have entered it that way) but had gotten the wrong lease agreement then let me sign it. Alright. 6 more months...
Summer came around and a female counterpart of mine ended blowing the fuse. I went over to switch it back and the fuse panel was screwed shut. Okay, starting to become a big deal, I took out the screw, I DID have all my fuses, thank goodness, switched it back and now its all good, but the door won't ever close, you have to screw it shut. Do I sound like a carpenter' Fixing the toilets was like a 3 weekend job.
The grease from the previous residents is still all over the oven and the walls and the cupboards...permanently. Not a single solution I could buy, or mix myself, could get it off the kitchen. The splash board is yellow (walls are white) so its beyond tacky, but I was cool with it, the grease glowing all over the place really made it fit in...
All the appliances work fine, never had a problem with those. They are older models but are in good condition. My only complaint would be the washer and dryer, though they worked as they should, you could only fit 2 pairs of jeans and a t-shirt in them. I saved more time and money going down to the laundry mat, but I paid the extra for the washer and dryer so I would do 17 loads of laundry just to get my towels done.
On a good note they do have a golf course intertwined through the property. I never personally had my vehicle or apartment hit, but it sure looks as though it wouldn't be hard to imagine. I would check out the pool but the card they gave me doesn't work any more. Something about a computer crash' I don't know...everyone in the park had to get new cards issued.
I had no trouble parking. Always had "my spot."
there are some potholes around, but onces you learn where to shuck and jive there isn't anything to worry about.
The grounds are kept decently clean, they mow everyday. We had some strange weather right before summer broke this year ('07) and it ended up being sunny and warm for a while then it snowed off and on. Well one morning I got up for work, walked outside 630a and it was snowing...okay I can handle that, then I look over and theres a guy mowing the lawn...I wasn't sure if it was me or him that had the problem.
I had no problem with safety. I always kept my own safety on me via ccw, but I would let my children play outside as frequently as they wanted, no second thoughts.
Overall, this place was a waste of hard earned money. I was irrate when I went looking for another apartment, for much less, and everything worked in side. Even the sliding glass door! No more having to throw my weight to get the thing to open (yes, it's on the track). I wouldn't suggest moving in, however, pick your poison. Apartments are all the same... 6TrHFn6pn7poyqNlKEgn
