Since I used this site to find my current apt, I feel obligated to leave feedback on the apt that I just moved out of--Thornridge.

I've lived at over 10 different apartment buildings over my life. For the most part, this one ranks pretty well.

The grounds are quite well-maintained and the maintenenace staff are responsive. Snow removal is usually fairly prompt. Grooming and care of the outside is good. The driveway could use some work, however.

Some problems:
1) When I first moved in 2.5 yrs ago, the apartment complex was quiet. Toward the time that I moved out, it became noisier, with some car stereos, louder music from some apartments, and some younger tenants.

2) Garbage disposal can be a nuisance, since you may have to walk a fair distance to reach the nearest dumpster.

3) The rental office will tell you that you can continue your lease on a month-to-month or other variation thereof after renting for your first 12 mos. Although the monthly rental rate was not supposed to vary depending on the renewal period chosen, it most certainly does. My rent was substantially increased at the end of my twelve months, and was further increased when I changed from a 6-month to a month-to-month lease when each lease period ended.

4) I had some problems at the time of moving out. When I made several attempts to arrange a walk-through of my apartment by the maintenence staff on a Saturday, they refused, saying that they do not work on weekends. A month after moving out, I received notification that there were considerable damages to my apartment (in the amount of $300) that I would have to pay for, otherwise a credit collection agency would be coming after me. This same thing happened to a colleague of mine who previously lived at the complex. It was very irritating, especially since I took great care to keep my apartment in excellent condition while living there, and left it spotless at the time of vacating. The complex does not allow for any wear of the unit, and if it is not EXACTLY as you left it, you will lose your deposit and be threatened to pay additional charges totalling the amount of the damages. Never, at any of the more than 10 apartments at which I have rented, have I lost my deposit. So needless to say, I was extremely annoyed and very unimpressed.

A few recommendations:
If you're going to rent here, rent from one of the newer buildings (the buildings were built in stages, form the 70's to the 00's). The new ones have central AC/heating, are cleaner, and have in-apartment laundry units.

Be sure to check out Heatherwood, which is right next door. It is slightly upscale compared to Thornridge and they have a gym.

Happy apt hunting.

Which apartments exactly are the newer ones? Be specific, because I'm looking at Thornridge (because it's the cheapest in the area) and want to make sure I get into a newer unit. Thanks!!
