Good place, good people, good location.

I currently live here and have for the last year and a half or so. The people who run it and their staff work hard to keep the place nice and are constantly making improvements. When the new managers took over about a year ago they seemed to want and turn College Hill from an adequate place to live into somewhere nice that people can be proud of. I'm not sure they have fully achieved that goal yet, but they have been constantly working on it and I feel they will reach it soon.
Since taking over, a lot has been done (this is only what I have noticed and probably NOT exhaustive.) The new management has improved and upgraded units, cleaned up and maintained the grounds with greater care, re-landscaped the exterior, repainted the building, resealed the parking, installed new (and more convenient) electronic locks on the main doors, installed more security cameras, and upgraded the exercise room.
I think the only thing really getting in the way of the management making the building truly exceptional is the building itself. It is an older building and has the shortcomings that come from its age. I also feel that past stewards of the property didn't have the same vision as the current management thus the management inherited some problems as well (of which they are trying to remedy as many as possible). In fact my only real complaints are quite minor. The walls are a little on the thin side and sometimes that can cause minor issues. Most of the tenants that I have had contact with seem responsible and reasonable and try to act accordingly. I also wish the place didn't just have the one box AC per unit and that the door buzz system didn't require a 616 phone number. Again, these are minor issues and this is an older building and only so much can be done.
All in all, I think it is a pretty nice place to live. It has a few shortcomings but I think all apartments do (nothing is perfect). Given that, I think it would be tough to find a better apartment without spending SIGNIFICANTLY more money. I would recommend College Hill. If you are looking for an apartment in GR come and take a look at this place and, as important as looking, talk to the managers. I think you will see that they genuinely care about the building and its tenants and want to make this a great place to live. Day by day the place is improving and it is most likely only going to get better and better.
