Read this before you move in there- Horror story!!

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2002
When I moved here there in Spring 2000. They were the only ones to rent to me - who had no area history and was just starting a new job. Boy if I had known what I was getting into...
My first year was ok. Although it took them forever to fulfull the promise of replacing my kitchen tile. When they did, I was not told and came home to my apt. totally covered in dust and drop cloths. My stove was disconnected, and I had no fridge.
When I decided to upgrade to a 2bdrm. I was rudely rushed into an immediate decision. Which should have been my premonition of things to come....In the year I was there, the proration was screwed up by their inadequate office staff to the tune of $40 in their favor. This was made known to me in MAY - I moved in February - when a pending eviction notice was sent to me. Oh, this gets better...Then in late October a pipe burst in my kitchen wall, spraying water all over my apartment. It was noticed when my neighbor?s son notice water in the hallway. I came home from work that night to strange people from a carpet cleaning company in my apt. No member of the office called me at work to tell me, no Northview Harbor rep was there onsite to breif me as to what happened. Just strange men cleaning up water. (Real nice huh') THEN- the office staff tells me that it was the fault of the carpet cleaning company for using the spigot on the outside of the building (they were cleaning the apt upstairs), however the spigot was not capped off. AND I came to find out later that night that the pipe had burst 2 times before with the previous resident, and was never fixed correctly. The management was not supportive and took no immediate means to fix the pipe or make sure I was happy. I had to take time off of work to clean up the mess Northview Harbor was responsible for. The flood was the final draw. Thank goodness my lease was up in March. They then had the gall to charge me for damages to carpeting that were the result of the flood their slip-shod service didn?t fix right the first time. When I confronted the management on this I was told "I am sorry you feel that way, however we are a business and this is the way it is..". When I requested cleaning receipts and photos of the damage, they were never sent.
This just scratches the surface on my experience in this place. The living section stories in the newspaper just make me laugh. Obvioulsy their upper managment must be clueless as to what actually is going on there.
Here's some more information for you...
You will pay for your heat and water. The water is convienently paid to the office. They split this charge off from the rent the second year I lived there. Now, supposedly this is some kind of township conservation thing, but what other complex does this' And why are residents paying the fee to the managment company and not the township' This fee is calculated by your water usage and people in your apartment.
AND- if you submit your rent via check, they will not return your check. They will do a debit to your checking account. When this was initiated, there was nothing sent out to residents until after it was initiated. Normally, you have to sign something or authorize permission in some form when you have this done for other bills. Its the law. They didn't.
One more thing, if you pay the $200 pet fee, it is non-refundable and is not viewed as a deposit per say. "You are paying for the privilage of having your animal". (By the way, if you do move in there, don't pay it right away, I knew people that had several animals and never paid at all...tee hee hee). You will pay the fee, and have an additional $25 tacked onto your rent.
So when all is said and done, you will have your rent, pet fee (if applicable), and water bill to pay. (Plus your other monthly bills.) Be smart, check around and see what other properties include in their rents. My $609 apt wound up costing me almost $675 when all was said and done.
Beware of this place. I agree with another individual who posted earlier, the management needs to go ASAP. Spend a little more money and rent a decent place.
Please do note that I have been out of there for a year now. Some of this could have changed, but I highly doubt it.
I hope this helps.
