DON?T DO IT! BIG MISTAKE!

I lived in the Hillmount, and I want to warn anyone considering this place that it is the single most uncomfortable apartment I?ve ever lived in, especially for the price. At first glance it may seem charming, but I would never in a million years rent from them again or let any of my friends or family make that mistake.

1.) There is no air conditioning, you have to provide your own if you want it. Without it, you will be SWELTERING. Even with air conditioning, the floor plans are laid out poorly so you will not get good circulation, and there are windows running the entire length of your apartment, turning your home into a greenhouse.

2.) You have little to no control over your heat in the winter, they are old registers that pump out a LOT of heat. (If you complain to the office, they will just tell you to close your vents. By altering the vents, it changed my apartment from 90 degrees to 85 degrees in January.) I had my windows cranked all the way open all winter which didn?t do much good, and the clacking blinds in the wind were maddening.

3.) The old heaters make a very loud clanking and banging noise ALL WINTER LONG too. ALL HOURS, EVERY DAY. It is so loud, you would swear someone was taking a baseball bat to the pipes in the wall.

4.) There is a lot of crime. In the year I lived there, someone had been robbed in our parking lot at gun point. If you don?t have a car alarm, you are asking for your vehicle to get burglarized. The back door to the building was almost always broken and anyone could walk in. And the post office recently informed me that someone had been stealing incoming and outgoing mail, and they are still investigating the crime.

5.) There are not enough parking spaces. You have to buy a car port to guarantee a space, and they are built in such a way that snow slides off the roof, putting a 4 foot snowbank against the back of your car. They are SLOW to plow, one time I was stuck all day.

6.) There are two elevators in the building that are never both working at the same time. I have known of several people to get stuck in them. They are old, they are dangerous, and they are unpredictable. And they are ALWAYS filthy and vandalized.

That said, I want to warn you too about an experience that happened to me while living here that compounded all the grief I?ve already mentioned. It was the weekend before Labor Day, and I got a flier under my door telling me about extensive balcony renovations they were planning to do that next week. They said that you must remove any items on your balcony by Tuesday (the day after Labor Day) or they would be destroyed. I had a balcony, and I was paying extra per month to have one. That Tuesday, a giant crane was parked in the front of our building at 7:00 in the morning, and demolition began. They took sledgehammers and loud equipment to our cement balconies which ran the entire LENGTH of our apartment! There was no place to get away from this noise and not to mention DUST. The white dust came right through our closed windows (remember, for any comfort at all, they had to remain open) It was a nightmare. Every morning between 7:00 and 8:00 we had to flee because of the noise and dust, and the work would continue until 6:00 at night. Our balcony door was boarded shut and everything was a mess. We were literally subject to living IN the construction site. The office had no sympathy, and they didn?t give anyone a single break on their rent. This went on for a month and a half. It was horrible, and we had very little warning. I never would have signed a lease had I known they were planning that.
