i lived in the oakwood manor back when i went to school at davenport and aquinas colleges. i lived in apt 6F very small studio & and beat the hell out of living on campus. this was back in 1979 thru 1982. my neighbor below me in 5F was john widdicomb jr. the son of furniture magnet JOHN WIDDICOMB SR. (widdocomb furniture no longer manufactured). back then they allowed tenants to paint and gave a carpet allowance. the garage was additional rent and was heated in the winter......(i don't think they still heat it) The building was very NEW YORK CITY style living. i worked part time at wotv and it was great living and walking to work after school each day.
this was back in the day when Steve Cometko was the evening anchor and was fired by Marvin Chauvin Station Manager for being ---. mabey its still that way in grand rapids........he later moved to LA and is a key person with E Entertainment. Actually it was a favor that Mr. Cometko was fired as he went on to bigger and better things then grand rapids could offer such a talent.
back to the review. it was a great place to live and you could then walk to most places with no fear. there was a grocery store called Clarks Market that was just great.
i give the place a plus but that was back then.
the pipes did make noise in the winter and were quite loud.
good luck.
