This is in followup to the last review I left about management sucking.

I applied to another apartment complex who ran a landlord review check (or whatever it's called) on me. I spoke with the new place today about something else and the guy said that my landlord, Joe, had given me a negative rating because I "made too many complaints." I assume this is in relation to my having to call again and again for months to get him to fix a leak in my bathroom ceiling (upstairs neighbor water - eww!) and subsequently getting the housing inspector involved; I think Joe is mad because he had to do work. This is uncool in a lot of ways.

1) There's no such thing as too many complaints if there are problems that need to be complained about!

2) If I hadn't complained, the next tenant would have discovered the problem and I would have probably been on the hook for it since I'd left the apartment in that condition. Not that I caused the problem in any way, but still.

3) If Joe had been doing his job properly and just fixed the problem after the first or second call, I wouldn't have had to complain so many times!

4) I called in the night a couple months back and left a huffy message because these little girls downstairs who ring my doorbell and run a few times a week decided to egg my front door with eggs, flour and maple syrup. I called the police, who talked to the girls, and I thought Joe should know what goes on with his tenants. He apparently doesn't care because his office was totally unsympathetic.

5) According to Dude At New Apartments (who basically said everything that I just did), he already checked into my complaints and corroborated that I'm in the right anyway, so it's pointless for Joe to fuss about it and it makes him look bad.

6) This is the second time Joe has been caught talking disparagingly about me to someone. The first time was when the Kentwood inspector confronted him and Joe said that I am "a difficult tenant" and that I was lying about the leak problem. This behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable.

If this complex was still run by the old management company, I would recommend it in a minute because my apartment in and of itself is great and I like living here. But living under Joe's management has been a negative experience and I would not advise anyone to move here and have to endure him. In light of all this, I seriously doubt he'll agree to return my security deposit... I don't think I'm through having problems with him. Argh.

I totally agree with everything you just said. I think Joe Bruisma is quite possibly the worse apartment manager ever. Congratulations on getting out of there!
