Not Worth Your Time!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I lived here for a year. When my roommates and I chose this apartment, they were managed by RDI Management, and they did a phenominal job. We chose Parkwood apartments because of the good size apartments, lower rent and because they were very pet friendly. While RDI managed them, we couldn't have been happier. Any maintenance issues were fixed immediatly (Our dishwasher didn't work, and they got us a new one within 2 days) and we had no problems with the office staff. Then Joe Bruinsma and his family took over and it went to Hell in a Handbasket.
As it says in other reviews, dealing with Lindsey (his daughter) was a nightmare. The letters or notices she sent out looked as though they were written by a 10 year old. Words were grossly mis-spelled and the grammar was atrocious. It was painful to read. And talking to her was another whole issue. She tried, but I couldn't trust anything she said because she sounded so young and, let's be honest, ditzy.
My main issue was with Joe, however. He came over once for a maintenance issue around 11 am one day. Everyone was at work, so he let himself in and left a note, which is fine. I believe he had to get into our little storage closet on our balcony because it was leaking into the apartment below us. When we returned home that night around 6 pm, we found our cat on the balcony. He had aparently let him out when he opened the door, and paid no attention to it, and left him out there all day (in the cold, I might add). I understand that accidents happen and he probably didn't do it on purpose, but when I called to confront him about it, he had no sympathy and was not sorry. His words were "It's just a cat". He didn't care that it was very cold outside, that he had no food for 7 hours and he may have jumped in order to get free. He didn't care at all and offered no apology. If you're going into someone's apartment and they have animals, you HAVE TO BE CAREFUL not to let them out. It's simple. If you see animals, you have to have a heightened sense of awareness about them and be careful.
I have another issue that involves him coming into our apartment 2 days before the end of our lease. We bought a house and we had to be out of our apartment in 2 days. He came in while we were in the process of moving and cleaning up. We knew somebody had been there because all the cabinets, closets and doors were open, and he left the front door unlocked. So, when we got there, we saw that the door wasn't locked but didn't worry too much because there wasn't much left in the apartmentment. I called Joe on his cell phone and told him we were there and everything would be taken care of before the end of the month, and he said he had been there to check things out. After I got off the phone, I found out that the last of our things had been stolen. Our vaccuum, steam cleaner, and a variety of other things. We even found some of our stuff in the dumpster downstairs. And then, all the sudden, we couldn't a hold of Joe anymore. We filed a police report, but it didn't do any good. Joe's carelessness in not locking the door resulted in us losing a lot of stuff. And that is what irritated me the most.
We've moved on from this, but I would not reccomend these apartments. Even the most simple interactions with them, I found to be stressful.
Spare yourself and live somewhere else. PLEASE!! They may seem nice up front (especially his wife and daughter) but it's not worth it to have to deal with him.
