I lived at the Lofts from 05-06, and it was my first place. I've had no experience renting, so I was in for a real treat. When applying, and signing a lease, it took about a month, but that was with me calling the office manager like every day. Before I moved in, the manager was really frindly, but after I moved in, she wasn't so much. The walls were not freshly painted before I moved in, and the apartment was NOT CLEAN. It was frustrating. Before I moved in the manager tried showing me another apartment that was "kind of like" the apartment I was going to rent, but really it was completely different trying to mislead me, because my apartment had torn up walls, uneven cabinets to flooring where the linoleum did not even reach the bottom of the cabinets. There was stuck on food all over the kitchen from the previous tenants. I later realized that my apartment was right next to the elevator whereas my bedroom would have a buzzing noise from the shaft all night long. The longer I lived in my apartment, the drywall kept crumbling off of one of my walls. I had just a couple maintenance problems, and for one of them, the maintenance came right away, but for the other...I had a pipe leak some water out of my hot water heater, and I thought it was always wet in the one corner of my apt, but I thought maybe it could have been my new dog, but within the next couple days, the leak would spread more and more, and then it started to get moldy, because whenever I would dry it, it would just get even more wet. I confronted the office manager (who was now a new person), and she said she would have it looked at immediately, about 3 weeks later, I decided to move out without my moldy floor ever being looked at. When I went to give my notice I mentioned that I didn't want to be charged for the moldy carpet, and she said that I wouldn't. Later, when I moved out, I was told that I would get my $600 security deposit back within 30 days, and I didn't ever get it back, so I kept calling the office manager, and her manager, and they kept saying they mailed it out, and I didn't receive it until 5 months later, and when I did receive it, I only received $50 of my deposit back without explannation. I later found out that I was charged to repaint the apartment after I was told that I was able to paint the apartment by the original landlord, but to my knowlege, I realized that in order to paint without charge, you need to sign a "painting adendum", which I did not sign at the signing of the lease, and I was charged for the moldy carpeting, and for the drywall that was beginning to crumble from old age in random spots. Among other things, the elevators are always covered in vomit, the car elevator breaks occasionally with cars in it, and you cant get your car out, as well as the parking is not closely watched, so wrongful people take your parking spot. I've also seen numerous cars boken into on the second floor parking garage due to the fact that there are no cameras on the second floor, only on the first where it is impossible to get a parking spot without waiting for 8-10 months. Homeless people somehow gain access into the building and sleep in the stairwell, where there are also no cameras. Homeless people also basically live in front of the building enterance, and wait for people to come and go to ask for money/food, and sneak in to the building. The apartment itself was very small for the price, and low-quality whereas they make the lobby, and outside look good, don't be fooled by the looks and charm, because you will regret the necessities in your apartment, and you will lose your money. Good location, trendy, cool neighbors, fun atmosphere, so so management, poor quality aparments which are occsionally unsafe.
