Be careful...

I moved into this apartment complex in July of 2006. There are storage bins in the basement of each building. I placed some of my boxes in this bin during the move to clear some space in the apartment. A week later I received a call from 2 credit card companies stating that there was an attempt of fraud (on the same day, around the same time) on each of these cards. When the storage bin was checked later that day, boxes were opened and items were stolen. This was not the first time my storage bin was burglarized. They are not secure. The bins do not reach the top of the building so anyone can hop over the top and have their fill. I went to the manager to suggest a solution, she told me that it would be taken care of in a couple of days...that was 2 weeks ago. Bins are still being broken into and she is doing nothing about it. Quite frustrating, I'm sure you can imagine.
A friend of mine also lives in this same building. His car was broken into the beginning of July and about $600 in stereo equipment stolen.
There are no security cameras anywhere, and no security personnel.
Just be careful...don't keep anything of value in the storage bin and don't have a nice car...and you'll be fine.
But overall, I wouldn't live here again. The lackluster response from the management leaves much to be desired.

Why would you put something so valuable into a storage room that is open at the top in the first place? You shouldn't be blaming the staff when they have how many apartments to try to take care of. Plus didn't you or your friend read any information about Woodland Estates before you moved in. There arn't any cameras or security guards. This is South East Grand Rapids you should be greatful that is all that has happend. Take responsibility for your own stupidity.

Thank you for reading my review. And yes, we did read about Woodland Estates before we moved in and the feedback overall was positive. Stupidity? I expect that when I pay $700 a month to live somewhere that my landlord will respond when there is a security problem. There was no response....just sighs and I'm sorries. I have lived in apartments in several states and never have had a problem like this one. |

What did you expect that the manager do anyway? You were the one that put your CREDIT CARDS in a storage tote in the storage room. Sounds to me like you were asking for trouble. Ususally people keep credit cards in their purse or wallet. This is the first time that I have heard of someone putting active credit cards in a storage unit! I agree with casserole_1136, this is pure STUPIDITY! I have lived at the property for 1 year and my sister has been there for 5 years. We love the office people and the location.

Right, schoolofrock. Now go and get a life and stop responding to various reviews. I'm trying to learn about the apartments in my search for a place to live. We don't care to hear your angry and snotty opinions regarding peoples' honest feedback. Somebody else mentioned that you go around responding to peoples' feedback all over. Yes, that's true. Perhaps you're in with the managers on this.
