Mixed Feelings

I lived here for six months. I have mixed reviews about Gallery Place. Our intial expierence was great. First of all, I have sub-par credit but more than adequete income, so I was a bit worried about being approved for an apartment. However, Gallery Place used a point system that gave me enough points for income and landlord references that I didn't need to rely on the credit portion. So, this can be an advantage for people struggling with credit issues.

The apartments are very nice- large and airy, with dishwashers, washer/dryer, central air, etc. Any issues we had were, for the most part, taken care of right away. We were also allowed to have our dog there. Although they listed a weight requirement that our pet exceeded, they waived it for us. Also, contrary to a previous review, I feel the pet fees were not unfair- an extra $200 deposit and $20 extra/month.

HOWEVER... when we moved, they told us the clubhouse would be done in early February. It was not finished till the end of March. And then, the fitness room was a tiny room with poor equipment. Nothing remotely special. They also promised the pool would be open June 1. It is now June 17 and it is not open. The final straw was when our apartment flooded. During one large downpour, the carpets in every room with a window flooded about five feet in. It took them almost two weeks to clean it up. For those weeks, all of furniture was shoved into the kitchen and hallways. They did NOTHING for us. They kept telling us to contact our renter's insurance. But nothing had been ruined, it was just a huge inconvience to live like that.

Lastly, I called to ask for our prorated rent for the last month and the consultant rudely informed me I had yet to fill out a notice to vacate. Perhaps this is common, but in my apartment expierience, I have never had to do that. When the lease is up, you move out! We weren't moving out early or anything. So, this was particulary annoying that they had not informed us of this. My guess is that they prey on people with short-term leases, hoping they don't fill out the paperwork within 30 days and then charge them excessive fees.

The flood expierence was enough to make me NOT reccommend this place. When we moved in, they were proud of the fact that the carpet was brand new, yet the entire complex was less than a few years old. After our expierence, I imagine that the apartment flooded for the previous tenants as well. When the carpet was finally dry, then 'forgot' to replace the padding.

Overall, I do not recommend Gallery Place.
