Decent but LOUD

The Arboretum is overall nice apartment complex built mainly for college students. The clubhouse, which also houses the leasing office, has a nice exercise facility and a pool. All well and good. But what you are paying for is the APARTMENT.

At first glance, the apartments are great. New construction (between 2000 and 2002), neutral beige plush carpet, wide door-walls to the balconies/patios, light oak cabinets, and frosted flourescent overhead lighting fixtures. Each apartment comes with a dishwasher, plus a full-size washer and dryer. Great!

What is NOT great about the Aboretum apartments is the noise, the quality of the construction, and the visitor parking situation. In the two years I've lived here, I have had problems several times a month with neighbors having loud parties any night of the week. If they migrate into the hallway, it's like having a few dozen more roommates. If they smoke, it's like they are smoking right in your face (no insulation around the doors). The walls are paperthin - if I want to know what's on a different TV station, I just mute my TV and listen for the one across the hall.

The appliances are at least name-brand, but not exactly top-of-the-line. Electric bills and heating (gas heat) are higher than normal, probably due in part to the inferior appliances. Although I would rather have a 1-star d/w than none at all.

Visitor parking sucks. For the hundreds of residents at the Arboretum, they've allowed for *maybe* a dozen or so visitor parking spaces. You can imagine what the situation is like on party nights. Some people park a mile or two away and then have the host come pick them up. OTOH, the parking for residents is great. I can always find a space within 20 feet of my door.

If you want to continue that frat house experience, ie lots of parties, tons of college students, and the meat market at the pool in the summer, the Arboretum is just the place for you. If you want a place where you can come home and relax in the peace and quiet, look elsewhere.
