I lived at The Arboretum from 2007-2008. We had a four bedroom ground floor and paid $370 and then $7 every month for internet. We had to get our own cable and we paid for Consumers Energy. We were supposed to get a water bill, but I think the old management company may have forgotten to put the bill in our names. When we moved in, the carpets were clean, our bathrooms were not, and our kitchen was okay, except for in the corners and whatnot. We were disappointed that our bathrooms had obviously just been cleaned by the former resident, because I thought the point of their 2 week turnover every year was to go through and clean them...' We never had any problems with anything in the apartment except our refrigerator and freezer broke once, but maintenance fixed it within an hour, which was awesome. (Phoenix properties was still owning/managing) Even though we were on the ground floor our electricity/gas bills weren't outrageous. As far as safety goes, all winter we had footprints going up to our windows in the back, our screens cut or torn off b/c people were trying to see if our windows were unlocked. I heard about CRAZY break-ins over X-Mas break. But the break-in issues are to be expected all along W. Michigan Avenue. A new mgmt company came towards the end of our lease and they were ok because they actually made sure that only residents and their guests used the workout facilities and the pool. A lot of people cried about the pool no longer being like MTV Spring Break, but I was happy because I could relax and have a CHAIR. My problem with the new management was that they seemed to always be in our apartment "inspecting." And they'd give themselves month-long windows to come in and out. The apartments themselves are fine and seem to be better construction than other student apts i've seen, so if you choose to live there ask for a 2nd or 3rd floor so you don't have to worry as much about break-ins. Overall the Arboretum was just fine and I heard their rental rates are even lower now, so I think they're great for college students.

If you're opposed to having a 'spring break' type of atmosphere in the pool area maybe you should not live in an all college complex!!!! It sounds like you're the one who is crying.
