What more can I say about Knollwood' Location is the best thing about it, close to campus (5 minutes walking and you don't have to battle Kalamazoo traffic). I lived there for a year with one roomate. The rent was average and guest parking was more than ample, which proved nice. The two bedroom townhouse set-up is pretty spacious, and the place has has central air and a fairly nice shower/bathroom set-up. Plus, the place is (somewhat) cable and Internet ready. If you really want to save $$$, you can put two people to a room and your rent will be less than $200 each per month. (I'd recommend signing a lease in the spring when they are despearate for folks and cut a two-bedroom from $675 to $600!). Additionally, the apartment is furnished so you don't need to worry about moving couches, desks, or even beds. They have a pool, too, but I never bothered with it, and a drop mailbox right in the complex so you don't have to worry about mail being stolen. On the downside, Knollwood is a bit noiser than other complexes near campus but police patrol quite regularly (especially on weekends). Other downsides: when I moved in, the apartment hadn't been cleaned by either the previous tenant or property management. I actually left it in better shape than I got it! When it came to maintenance concerns, they were quick and efficient except during my last two weeks living there when my bedroom ceiling sprung a leak and it took them several days to even come and check it out (notice I didn't say fix). Right before I moved, Knollwood got new office staff and the other reviewers were right: she is/was awful mean (god forbid you "bother" her by asking for a receipt with your rent payment!). Plus, the "boss-hog" looking maintenance fellow should be avoided as he is a bit of an insincere prick. Oh...and bring a shovel and melting salt for the winter. Shoveling sidewalks and around cars in the lots by staff is infrequent at best. So...if you're looking for a domicile close to campus (save money on a $300 WMU parking permit') for an average apartment, go-ahead with Knollwood. If you have higher standards, look elsewhere. Good luck!
