Office staff will rip you off

I liked the size and layout of my apartment. Didn't always feel safe, but never ran into any serious problem. Parking was difficult at times, and visitor parking was a nightmare. A few times we had to have guests park at the nearby Meijers or Big Lots. However, the worst part of my experience with this complex was their office staff. They lost my rent check one month, and wanted to charge me a late fee even though it was their fault. I was able to convince them that I wouldn't be putting out $30 for a stop payment on my check if I'd never submitted it to them. They also confused the dates on our lease; they kept telling us it ended a month before it actually did. When we went in to talk to them about it, they said they'd correct it. A few weeks later we got another notice - they hadn't corrected anything. When our lease was almost up, my roomate was looking into getting a one bedroom apartment with Candlewyck because I was moving elsewhere. The office staff quoted her one price, but when she went in to officially sign the paperwork a few weeks later, they quoted her a significantly higher price. Needless to say, she moved elsewhere.
The worst part was when we moved out. They wanted to charge us $150 for repairs on our apartment, which we took great care of. When we went in to inquire as to the nature of these repairs, the office staff told us that several door frames looked like they'd been burned somehow! They had fuzzy, unclear pictures of it that they claimed proved it. We knew we hadn't done that damage to the apartment; we never lit anything in the hallways that would have done damage like that! Everything was in good condition when we turned in our keys. When we asked to see the damage, they said it had just been repaired earlier that day. How convenient for them. We were able to negotiate the price of the repairs, but we still had to pay. They took advantage of us because we were college-age and they thought they could get away with it.
I absolutely would NOT recommend this complex. The location is good, but that's about the only thing it has going for it. It may seem like you're getting a good deal at first, but they'll find other ways to get your money from you.
