Moving and None Too Soon

This is a list that I have given to Crapplewyck multiple times now. This complex is the worst in history; it purports to be luxurious and fabulous, but it is constantly being swarmed by police for unknown reasons, the buildings are falling down around you (as the balconies fall off the buildings), and the resident pays EVERY utility possible at outrageous rates (These last two months I paid over $80 to AUM, the idiotic utility company - that is on top of the Consumer's Energy bill). The noise is a serious problem - loud parties on weeknights stretching into the 3-5am range. The lighting is terrible & the security doors are only locked about half the time.

Problems at Candlewyck:

1. In the first week, my car was broken into and all of my cutting tools were stolen,
along with my parents air conditioner (I am a hairstylist - those tools are my
livelihood.
2. Terrible chimney grate has allowed FOUR *(amend to SIX) birds into our apartment.
3. Right side of the stove has never worked had it fixed a couple times, but to
no avail.
4. Furnace buzzes loud enough to wake us.
5. Fruit flies exist in our apartment all year around there was one massive
infestation in which we trapped over 50 in a single day.
6. Snow was in the apartment through a massive gap between the stationary part of the
sliding door and the wall.
**7. Garbage disposal shakes and rumbles like it will burst through the wall.
8. Dishwasher does not clean dishes.
**9. Security door takes a very long time to close, making it not very secure.
**10. The boards in the balcony floor are so warped that the nails stick up,
regardless of how many times we pound them down.
11. Building 114 side is very poorly lit and causes great anxiety when we must use
that door at night because of the insufficient parking.
12. Water:
a. has been brown off and on since move in last month & half *(amend to 2 1/2
months) consistent (clear water is a miracle and never even lasts the whole day)
b. for a long time, was either brown or cold, but now it comes out hot toilet
replenishes with hot, brown water which leaves water residue on seat
c. was turned off with NO WARNING while I was in the middle of coloring my hair and
needed to rinse it desperately
*d. I have been required to leave my apartment in the middle of the night at the
behest of a fire alarm caused by the improper installation of a still-faulty
hot water heater

*Amended since original list to accurately reflect the current status of previous complaints filed in print, without regard to the many submitted by phone that were apparently misplaced or ignored

**These three items are the only that have been addressed; 25% is a failing grade
no matter how you slice it

This place is overpriced and the needed repairs are neglected. The office staff is beyond stupid in their inability to process simple requests and even rent checks. This year is almost over and I can feel the relief flowing through me - it has been nothing but stress and frustration. If this site did not require me to, I would not give them a single star. DO NOT MOVE HERE!

My thoughts on this person..is that it is Candlewycks fault that this crazy girl has limited money and the bulk of her money goes to rent. Candlewyck is a beautiful place...and many residents think so. Its the people that are negative about life that may seem to think this way. I've lived here for 4 years, and i know that people don't have these kind of problems. I will say...if you are unhappy at Candlewyck, you are going to be unhappy everywhere! For anyone that may be considering Candlewyck....please don't believe her negative made up remarks. She mad at life, not Candlewyck.

Although my problems have not been as bad, I too have had many similar issues. I have had three bats (BATS!!) not birds, fly into our apartment through the chimney because it was not working properly. There are warped boards and nails sticking up on my patio as well which have yet to be fixed. And the water is terrible (it came out black for 36 hours at one point). However, I have to say that the staff has always been very friendly and outside of some maintenance issues they have been very proficient. It is not necessary to imply that a person is a liar or has mental health issues because their experience has not been the same as yours.

Candlewyck is a older apartment complex and there is a need for many repairs, replacements, updates, and renovations throughout the entire complex. Under the current (new mgmt.) many improvements are being made, unfortunately, the improvements that are being made are minimal, ineffective, and cheaply done. The electric stoves are in such bad repair. They're dangerous and need to be replaced. There is mold and mildew around the toilets and bathtubs, that you cannot get rid of no matter what you do to try and remove it. There are water spots under the old linoleums in the bathrooms and most of the kitchens. The cabinet drawers are falling apart and very difficult to open and close. I have had as many as 50 birds that entered my apartment through the fireplace. These are not exagerations. Ther rent is comparable to others in the community and the apartments are large. The grounds are beautiful and it is located in an excellent location near parks, shopping, highways, and pharmacies. The pools (2) need repairs and cleaning. There is an adequate work out room, and the complex has recently made computers (3) available to tenants, unfortunately there is no working printer.

I AGREE COMPLETELY that no one should ever consider moving here. I've lived here for one year and have always paid my rent in full and at least 1 week early, but between their customer service problems (i.e. 3 days to fix broken fridge, lost all cold/frozen food, doors that won't lock, etc.) and the stupid and apathetic management staff, we decided to purchase our own home. Since we would't sign a lease for another year the harrassment began. After pointing out exactly where the visitor parking was, they had my stepson's car towed from that space. Then they refused to even help or acknowledge that their towing company was illegally towing cars at $150/car. (I think that the mgr is getting a kickback from the towing company.) Lately, they've told me that I must drive my third vehicle regularly or it will be towed. Right now, there is a burned out hulk of a van sitting directly in the entrance at Kilgore Av, and that car is OK! My wife is afraid to go to work or to sleep because she believes that she'll wake up and all of our cars will be gone. Also the bldg I live in has always been just quiet, working people, which is how it was promised to us. Now they've moved in the party animals who stay up late every night drinking and screaming off the balconies. The cops are in our backyards almost nightly. If Candlewyck's goal is to drive out the good renters, then they are succeeding. As soon as our bid on our house is accepted, we're gone.
